[VIDEO] Five Quick Videos to Learn More about the C8 Mid-Engine Corvette

Our friends over at the MidEngineCorvetteForum.com have a great thread designed to help you learn more about the C8 Mid-Engine Corvette and some of the technologies that may be incorporated into the new sports car.

We see this list as a primer that could be added to, and the nice thing is that these are quick videos, so you don’t have to spend 30 minutes or an hour to bring yourself up to speed. In fact, the MECF’s admin “John” says that watching these five videos takes exactly nine minutes so they can be knocked out pretty fast!

John thinks these are the best videos so far to learn about and experience the 2020 Mid Engine Corvette. They cover its tracking at the Nurburgring, a 360 degree render video, mid-engine aerodynamics, GM’s “light-weighting” program, and learning about DCT transmissions. So if you’ve got nine minutes, make sure to check these out!

1: C8 Mid-Engine Corvette at the Nurburgring:

Just 59 seconds long, but watching this C8 Corvette on a race track gives a good feel for how the ME is fairing during initial ‘Ring testing and development.

2: Full 360° Render of the C8 Corvette:

Most of the renders are 2d flat images, but this 360° Render shows all sides of the car and have inspired other digital artists to begin creating their own 3d renders.

3: Ferrari 488 GTB – Aerodynamics

Not a Corvette video, but this official Ferrari video features the aerodynamics of the Ferrari 488 GTB. It covers all the major mid-engine aero solutions for creating downforce without increasing drag.

4: GM’s Next Generation of Vehicle Light Weighting:

The MECF thread on “How Much Will the Mid Engine Weight?” is interesting, as well as this video showing how GM’s lightweighting program is utilizing 3D printing and other prototyping methods for creating lighter and stronger components. We all know how critical lowering weight is for improving sports car performance:

5. Learning About DCT Transmission

One of the most exciting technologies that may be forthcoming on the C8 Mid-Engine Corvette is the inclusion of the Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT). Here’s another great primer at MECF called Learning About a DCT and make sure you watch this excellent video from TREMEC to understand how a DCT works:

About the Mid-Engine Corvette Forum
The C8 Mid-Engine Corvette Forum is a great place for Corvette enthusiasts who want to learn more and discuss the C8 Corvette with fellow owners. John and the gang (disclosure: I am in the gang!) have done a super job of cataloging the development of the C8 Corvette and we know that as we get closer to launch, the MECF will be among the first to have the latest and most accurate information available on the new sports car. Plus, there is none of that in-fighting or name calling that you see on other forums.
