BoP Strikes Again: Corvette C7.R Gets Heavier for Six Hours of Shanghai

Next weekend, the No. 64 Corvette C7.R wearing the special Chevrolet Redline Livery will make its debut in Asia for the Six Hours of Shanghai.

While you would think that organizers would be thrilled to add an additional manufacturer to the event roster, however, the message being sent is “sure, come on over but don’t get in the way of our WEC regulars”.

That message was delivered following the release of the Balance of Performance tables for the GTE-Pro class ahead of next weekend’s endurance race.

The No. 64 Corvette C7.R will be carrying 27 kg more weight (59.5 lbs) than their BoP weight at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June (also a WEC race), making the Chevrolet the second-heaviest entry in GTE-Pro at 1276 kg. Except for the Ferrari 488 GTE, all “full-season” GTE-Pro cars were handed weight breaks for the race in China.

The Aston Martin Vantage GTE was given a 6 kg weight reduction while the BMW M8 GTE, Porsche 911 RSR and the Ford GTs took 5 kg off their official weights.

The Redline-livery Corvette has been given a maximum fuel capacity of 96 liters (same as Le Mans) and a 30.6 mm restrictor which Sportscar365.com says is the same size as the Porsche 911 RSR.

Other changes in the class include the Aston Marin receiving slight increases in their turbo boost numbers while Ferrari had a small reduction in its turbo boost tables.

The Six Hours of Shanghai takes place the weekend of November 16-18th. We’ll have more coming up about how you can follow all the action from half a world away next week.
