Corvettes for Sale: 1968 Corvette with L68 427/400 V8

With six days to go, this 1968 Corvette coupe has already attracted a lot of interest at its bringatrailer.com for sale listing.

And for good reason.

Orange seems to be a hot color now, what with the 2019 ZR1 being unveiled recently in Sebring Orange.

This ’68 with a 427 Tri-Power V8 hooked to a Muncie 4-speed manual is colored in Corvette Bronze (which is a more sedate shade of orange than Sebring but is still quite the eye catcher) with Dark Orange vinyl interior.

This one has been to the graveyard, so to speak, but is resurrected in its full glory now. After the original 427 spun a bearing, the previous owner bought the car in the early 1990s while a 350 replacement engine was being installed. The current owner bought the car in 2005 and says the original 427 is back under the hood after being rebuilt. Over the past 13 years, the car has covered just 5,000 of the 79,000 miles showing on the odometer.

We don’t know if the paint is original, but in the photos, it still looks very nice – even though the seller was honest enough to identify a small crack ahead of the right front wheel arch.

The interior appears to be stock and in excellent condition, other than a tear noted in the driver’s seat vinyl, with the factory AM/FM radio and wood-look steering wheel in place.

Of course, the ’68 was the first year for the removable T-tops, which are done in body color, as well as the debut of the removable rear window, a nice touch that owners of C3 coupes appreciate on hot days when they’re cruising around town.

Mechanically, the new owner will get a Corvette that has had the stock radiator refurbished eight years ago, the same time a new clutch and pilot bearing were installed. Photos show engine stamping #185415561, matching the A-pillar VIN. The IM suffix shows the car has the 400-horsepower version of the 427.

As of this morning, the bids have climbed to $20,000 – considerably below what other similar examples are being offered for sale. It’ll be interesting to see if this one keeps climbing or peaks out and becomes a no-sale.
