Did you hear about the latest Nurburgring ring time recently released by an automotive manufacturer? No, it’s not the time for the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 which put down its laps in May, prior to a ban on manufacturer lap times. It was an Alfa Romeo Giulia Sedan which recently made headlines with a 7:39 time around the 12.9 mile Nordschleife.
Alfa Romeo released the time as well as some other performance specs during last week’s opening of the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.
So can we please have our video, press release and most important, the Nurburgring lap time for the Corvette Z06? Pretty Please?
It was back in June that we were told by Corvette Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter that the Corvette Z06 had completed a lapped time on the Nurburgring and that video and the press release would be coming soon.
But then during a sanctioned race at the Nurburgring, a spectator was killed when a car went off the track and flipped over a safety fence. The new owners of the Nurburgring decided that speed limits would be imposed in certain track sections and that automotive manufacturer “fast laps” were now banned.
Chevy then pulled back and said they were not allowed to release the time due to these circumstances. When Corvette’s test driver Jim Mero was asked about the lap time by Car and Driver for their Lightning Lap issue, Mero replied, “it’s complicated.”
We remembered seeing a video of an Alfa Romeo Giulia prototype in camouflage around the ‘ring which was posted by Bridge to Gantry. I went back to look at it and found it was posted in late August.
An now in mid-September, Alfa Romeo opened their press conference at the Frankfurt Motor Show with video of the 2016 Giulia on the Nurburgring.
So I ask, if Alfa Romeo can release a video and time of the 2016 Alfa Romeo Giulia (which was mostly likely run after the ban on manufacturer times), then why can’t we have the video and time for the Chevrolet Corvette Z06?
