Corvette Auction Preview: Mecum in Monterey

This is a big weekend for car auctions as most of the major auction houses are descending on Monterey, California for a weekend full of classic and collector car sales. Although fairly new to the Monterey scene, Mecum Auctions has a full slate of cars ready to be sold during their Monterey Daytime Auction which kicks off on Thursday and runs through Saturday. On the Mecum sales docket are 42 Corvettes that are ready for new homes and several of these Vettes are worthy of a closer look.

Lot #F85 1999 Corvette Callaway C12 Speedster
This beautiful Callaway Speedster is one of only two C12 Speedsters produced by the legendary tuner. The special order Corvette features a 346 CI Supernatural V8 producing 440 horses. Other notable features include a Callaway-built automatic transmission, dual coil suspension, Le Mans brake package and a custom interior trimmed in Carbon Fiber and two-tone leather. The 1999 C12 Speedster cost over $225,000 when new and we remember seeing this Corvette on eBay in 2010 with a buy it now price of $115,000.

Lot #S92 1957 Corvette Roadster
Mecum describes this classic ’75 Corvette the kind of car that Corvette enthusiasts dream about and we certainly agree. This freshly restored 1957 Corvette has lived its entire life in California. Powered by the dual-quad 283/270 V8, it also comes with the T-10 4-speed and a 4.56 dated factory X code rear end. Only 487 Corvettes in 1957 were Arctic Blue and this car has a beige interior and top, as well as the radio delete option. The Corvette was sold new in San Diego and comes with an early 1960’s registration and owner history.

Lot # S107 1971 LT1 Corvette Roadster
Buyers checking out the many C3 Corvettes for sale should take a longer look at this Mille Miglia Red 1971 Corvette Roadster. Powered by the matching numbers 350/330 hp solid lifter LT1 V8, this convertible Corvette is ready for show or go after receiving a professional frame-up restoration completed earlier this year. The Corvette comes equipped with the Muncie M-21 4-speed transmission, power steering and brakes, AM/FM radio and a white soft top.

Mecum’s Daytime auction at Monterey gets underway starting 11 am PT on Thursday at the Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel and Spa. HD Theater will show the auction live starting at 3pm Pacific Time on Thursday while Friday and Saturday’s start time is moved up to 1pm PT. You can also follow the action live at Mecum.com.
