A recent ad from a Lotus dealer compares the Elise to four other convertible sports cars in the same class. Unfortunately for Lotus, the ad is filled with several inaccuracies, and has become a joke among enthusiasts. The Corvette Convertible, for example is listed as having a 3.2L 6 cylinder engine. Not since 1955 has there been a 6 cylinder available in the Corvette. And secondly, the Corvette’s 0-60 mph time is blasphemous! 5.4 seconds! Humph. That wrong piece of data came actually came from Edmunds.com. Chevrolet lists the Corvette’s 0-6 mph time at 4.2 seconds. Lastly, who would want a BMW M3 Convertible? According to this Lotus advertisement, the M3’s city/highway mileage is 1/23!!
If the dealer group continues to run ads like these, Lotus might as well hire pitchman extraordinaire Joe Isuzu.
