We could know by Halloween whether Chevrolet will be competing in the GTE-Pro class of the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2016.

Wayne Taylor is negotiating with Larbre Competition’s Jack Leconte about a joint effort, with the two men meeting last weekend at Circuit of The Americas to discuss the matter.

Corvette Racing to Skip the FIA WEC 6-Hour Race at COTA

We were pretty excited last year when Corvette Racing signed up their third C7.R chassis for duty in the FIA World Endurance Challenge Race at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. The all-American driver roster included Tommy Milner and the two Taylor brothers and was referred to as “Team America”.

But according to a report by Sportscar365, Corvette Racing will not be entering a Corvette C7.R as a wildcard in this year’s FIA WEC race which takes place September 19th.

When Jan Magnussen’s throttle stuck on the Porsche Curves at Le Mans last Thursday sending his No.63 Corvette C7.R into the wall, the resulting damage was significant enough to cause Corvette Racing to withdraw the car from race at Le Mans. Now we are learning that the Corvette won’t be ready for the upcoming TUDOR race at Watkins Glen later this month either.

The good news is that Larbre Competition will be loaning Corvette Racing their C7.R for the six hour race on June 28th.

The factory-backed Corvette C7.Rs aren’t the only Corvettes to tackle La Sarthe this weekend for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The French racing team Larbre Competition are enjoying their 23rd appearance at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and this year they will be driving the No.50 Corvette C7.R known as the “French American” in the GTE Amateur Class.

This is the same C7.R chassis the No.3 Corvette C7.R drove to a class win at the Rolex Daytona 24 Hour race in January. Larbre Competition also drove the car at the 12 Hours of Sebring in March and the team now has its sights set on the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The FIA’s World Endurance Championship kicks off the 2015 season this weekend at the Silverstone Circuit in England and a Corvette C7.R campaigned by Larbre Competition will be making its debut in the GTE-AM class.

The C7.R chassis was most recently raced by Corvette Racing’s Jan Magnussen, Antonio Garcia and Ryan Briscoe at the Rolex 24 at Daytona in January 2015 where it won its class before it was sold to Larbre. Larbre Competiton is no stranger to racing Corvettes as they previously ran the C6.Rs in the series, which include a win in class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

For the second year in a row, the French Larbre Competition team has sent a Corvette to the winner’s circle in the GTE-AM division at the 80th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France.

But it wasn’t easy to repeat.

The No. 50 Larbre Corvette C6R had to battle throughout the race with the No. 67 IMSA Matmut Porsche RSR, trailing by about 12 seconds with less than 20 minutes left.
