Corvette Auction Results: 2015 Mecum Spring Classic in Indianapolis

This Guest Post contributed by Marshall Fancher, Editor of www.VetteNVestments.com

This was the 28th year of the always spectacular Dana Mecum Annual Spring Classic Auction at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. A total of 1,329 cars crossed the block. 783 of those cars found new owners. This equates to a respectable 58% sell through rate for the overall auction.

Mecum does a fantastic job at creating excitement about special cars, and they did not disappoint. These cars did what we thought were very strong and honest prices, considering the fantastic quality of each example.

1958 Fuelie Collection Heading to Mecum Indy

When it comes to our Corvettes, enthusiasts will collect just about anything. Some collections focus on rare, low production cars while others feature only low mile cars. Others may even consist of a single color like the black collection Mecum sold a few years ago. Coming up in Indianapolis this weekend, Mecum will be selling a collection of 1958 fuel injected Corvettes – one in each color available in 1958.

Unique Golden Anniversary 1958 Corvette to Cross the Block at Mecum Indy

Of the many Corvettes that will be offered at Dana Mecum’s Indianapolis sale next week, this 1958 Corvette stands in a class all its own.

Two things were going on back in 1958 when this Corvette was made. First the redesigned 1958 Corvette wore more chrome than any another Corvette that came before and secondly, it was Chevrolet’s 50th Anniversary.

To commemorate Chevrolet’s Golden Anniversary, a 1958 Corvette roadster was pulled from the production line and painted a special one-of-one “Anniversary Gold”. That Corvette would be designated as Chevrolet’s 39,000,000 vehicle produced.

1967 Corvette Restomod with C7 Stingray's LT1 Engine will Star at Mecum's Indy Auction

For some folks, the 1967 Corvette as the last year for the C2 still represents the pinnacle for America’s Sports Car.

Others would argue that the seventh-generation Stingray is right up there with the best, too.

Now comes a very special 1967 Corvette convertible that combines the greatest things about each of these two special Corvette generations.

Mid America Motorworks' Mike Yager to Sell 11 Corvettes at Mecum Indy

One of the country’s premiere car collections will be shrinking slightly next month as select cars from Mike Yager’s MY Garage collection cross the auction block at Mecum’s Indianapolis sale. In all, 11 cars ranging from a 1957 barn find to 2006 pre-production Z06 will be available for you to purchase.

Mecum's Indy Auction Offering Corvette Treasures

Dana Mecum’s name is being changed to “Indiana Mecum” because like “Indiana Jones” he has a way of finding treasures, Corvette treasures, and offering them for sale at his vaunted Indianapolis Spring Auction, May 14th through May 19th.

This year “Indiana Mecum” will auction over 2,000 collector cars and motorcycles during his six day extravaganza. But as usual, he saves the real “treasures” to auction on Saturday, May 18th. On that special day Mecum is offering no less than twenty five Corvettes centered around seven high-end, meticulously restored award winning second generation cars, three third generation Corvettes and five restomodded vettes. These special cars presale estimates range from $120K to $600K.
