With Championships on the Line, Corvette Team Ventures into Uncharted Territory at Virginia International Raceway
ALTON, Va., Sept. 10, 2012 – According to the state slogan, Virginia is for lovers, but Virginia International Raceway is for racers. The manicured circuit in the rolling Virginia countryside will host Saturday’s American Le Mans VIR 240, the ninth round of the 10-race 2012 American Le Mans Series.
Corvettes – and Chevrolet – dominated at Laguna Seca Raceway over the weekend.
Richard Westbrook started from the pole position in the No. 9 Spirit of Daytona Corvette Daytona Prototype (DP) and then joined forces with teammate Antonio Garcia to win the Continental Tire Sports Car Festival GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series race Sunday.
In the process, Westbrook and Garcia became the first team to win three Rolex DP races this season. Overall, it was the seventh Corvette DP win of its inaugural season and moved Chevrolet closer to the highly sought Engine Manufacturers’ Championship with one race left.
When you’re one of the world’s best-known sports cars, people like to draw a line in the sand and dare you to cross it.
But recently, Carbuzz.com, in its Drag Race Tuesday series, featured a video that threw a different opponent at a Chevrolet Corvette C5: a motorized skateboard.

The future of sports car racing in North America just got a bit more interesting with Wednesday’s announcement that NASCAR’s Grand-AM Series and the American Le Mans Series would merge into one entity beginning in 2014. Also included in the merger is Road Atlanta and the racing lease on Sebring International Raceway.
It’s a tribute to the engineers at Chevrolet that the Corvette ZR1 is even considered a peer with the much, much more expensive Ferrari 458 Italia and the McLaren MP4-12C.
Road & Track recently decided to pit three of the best that the United States, Italy, and Britain have to offer at Spring Mountain’s Radical Loop, with IMSA GT legend Steve Millen driving for the timed laps. Millen, of course, has the most all-time wins in that series with 20 as well as the most pole positions with 23.
Gavin and Milner Score Big in GT Championship with Runner-up Finish, Magnussen and Garcia Fight Back from Last to Sixth
BALTIMORE, Sept. 1, 2012 – Corvette Racing encountered heavy holiday traffic on the streets of Baltimore today, finishing second and sixth in the Baltimore Sports Car Challenge. Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner labored long and hard on the Labor Day weekend to bring the No. 4 Compuware Corvette C6.R across the finish line second, 2.2 seconds behind the winning No. 17 Porsche of Bryan Sellers and Wolf Henzler. That result increased their lead in the GT driver championship as their closest rivals finished down the order. Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen battled back after a tire puncture on the first lap dropped the No. 3 Compuware Corvette C6.R to last place. With their sixth-place finish, Garcia and Magnussen retained second place in the GT driver standings.
