So the Easter Bunny forgot to leave the keys to a new Corvette in your basket again? Don’t fret because we just stumbled across this original, low-mile 1987 Callaway convertible on eBay. This first year RPO B2K car has just 1,987 miles on the clock.
Chevrolet and Callaway Cars built 184 cars with option code RPO B2K in 1987. The $20,000 option package bolted on 2 turbos and other assorted go-fast goodies which bumped the L98’s output from a meager 240hp up to 345hp and 465ft-lbs of torque. RPO B2K is still the only GM option code ever assigned to an aftermarket builder. During its 1987 – 1991 production run, roughly 500 B2K’s were built.
This example currently listed on eBay is one of the 184 Callaways produced in 1987. It’s being listed by Radical Motor Sports of New Jersey. The Medium Gray Corvette features the desirable 4+3 manual transmission in addition to the graphite leather interior. Other options include dual power seats, engine oil cooler, heavy duty radiator, and the Delco Bose stereo.
The best part about this Corvette is the odometer. It shows just 1,987 miles travelled since new. Based on the photos, the condition appears to be pretty consistent with that low mileage. Keep in mind that we always recommend that you inspect a car in person before buying it. (We also recommend that you offer to take the CorvetteBlogger staff for a ride in any Corvette you may purchase in the future)
The eBay listing is pretty light on details but the photos show several of the original Callaway-exclusive documents as well as the original invoice showing the “Ship to” address as Callaway Engineering in Old Lyme, CT, and the service parts sticker showing RPO B2K in the middle of the first line.
As we assembled this blog post the car was at $16,100 with 16 bids and a reserve that was not yet met. There is no Buy-it-Now price but we did see the car listed on Radical’s website for $34,995.
So if you’re looking for a nearly new 1987 Callaway Corvette, hop to it as the auction is up in a couple of days on April 24th.
