Indiana Pacer’s guard Tyrese Haliburton made his first ‘fast break’ today at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as underwent a right of passage that official Indy 500 Pace Car drivers must go through. Photos from the IndyCar twitter feed shows the professional basketball player at the Brickyard with the 2023 Corvette Z06 Convertible pace car while former IndyCar driver and team owner Sarah Fisher takes him through the finer points of leading a pack of 33 IndyCar racers to the green flag.
Tyrese is 6-foot 5-inches tall and we got think a helmet adds even more to that, but he doesn’t appear to be squished at all as he is behind the wheel with the top on. Another shows a top-down photo with Sarah Fisher, who drove last year’s Z06 Pace Car.
That Z06 looks really good with the Indy 500 door sticker, the Tech Bronze wheels, and of course the bad ass aero on the back deck. It occurred to me that this is the first time the same Corvette model year paced the Indy 500 in consecutive races as the 2023 Z06 also paced the 106th running of the “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” in 2022.
The Indy 500 Pre-race show gets underway at 11:00 am on Sunday with the Indianapolis 500 starting at 12:45 pm ET on NBC.

Looks like the Z06 has a lot of leg room….
The much shorter guy is Santino Ferrucci, who qualified fourth for the 500 driving the #14 Homes For Our Troops entry for AJ Foyt Enterprises.
Are the Pacers still around?
I’m a Corvette guy, but think it’s weird that a C8 Z06 was used 2 years in a row. What, doesn’t FORD or MOPAR have anything fast enough?
Ronnie, umm no! Why is it weird?? Besides, those clowns don’t have anything that even comes close to looking this friggen GOOD! Who is this guy? How did he get this ride?? Lucky bastard:)
Has Ford or Mopar ever had a Indy Pace Car??
