At the end of July, GM North American President Steve Carlisle came out and said that buyers of the 2023 Corvette Z06 would have to own the vehicle for a year before selling.

The idea behind the strategy is to discourage those customers from immediately flipping their vehicles for thousands in profit. Those that did would be banned from ordering other in-demand vehicles from the automaker, and the vehicle’s warranty would not be transferred to the new owner.

In addition, those customers who kept their Corvettes for 12 months would also be rewarded with 500,000 My Chevy Rewards points valued at $5000 that could be spent on GM accessories, service visits, and even car payments if the car is financed through GM.

Yesterday, the automaker updated its rules regarding the sale of in-demand vehicles, and now GM is telling dealers that “warranty retention adherence” is changing from 12 months to only six months. The second part of this is that GM told dealers is that “No exceptions will be made for customers.” We think they ran the program by GM’s legal department, who requested those changes.

That same memo also shows they want dealers to debunk the fact that the car had allocation issues, saying there will be a slower ramp up, and the automaker will be building fewer units to “get the car right.” We can’t argue with that sentiment, but the only allocation issues we are aware of stem from the order cycle debacle last month, where none of the top dealers received ANY allocations initially, and it was only after meetings in Detroit later that day did the allocations start flowing to the top 10 dealers.

Finally, we told you about the $300 price increase as Chevrolet is now including OnStar on all Corvettes. We heard a lot of pushback from customers, and we get it as we hate these vehicle subscription updates as much as the next guy.

  1. Exactly? What happens if we don’t buy in? They disable our cars? I dare them to try…

  2. I suppose GM lawyers said there could be a problem if someone hated the car and wanted to get rid of it but told he could not do so until a year had passed. Why not simply say that before one year the car cannot be sold at a price more than costs involved in purchase including incidentals such as travel. Of course that would be difficult to stop the package of $100 bills from passing under the table. 12 months made a “flip” impracticable. 6 months makes a deal possible considering how long many would have to wait otherwise and a lawyer could likely iron out a deal for promise to sell after that date and passage of some money beforehand. Arrangements could be made on storage so the car did not see use before change of ownership. Required subscription sees like a heavy-handed poor idea.

  3. CHEVROLET, GENERAL MOTORS, MS. MARY BARRA, MR. MARK REUSS AND MR. HARLAN CHARLES HAVE CREATED THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY’S LARGEST EXAMPLE OF A TRUE
CLUSTER F**K WITH THIS EIGHT GENERATION OF CORVETTE STINGRAYS AND NOW THE Z06!

THERE IS A TOTALLY AVOIDABLE SITUATION WITH THIS CORVETTE WHEN A COMPETENT CHEVROLET MANAGER SITS DOWN AND DESIGNS A PLAN TO BUILD, SELL, AND SERVICE CORVETTES EFFICIENTLY AND COST EFFECTIVELY THAT CAN SATISFY EVERY CORVETTE OWNER DESIRES AND NEEDS WITHOUT ANY MORE BULLS**T FROM MS. BARRA AND REUSS AND CHARLES..

HOW MUCH CRAP IS THE CORVETTE COMMUNITY GOING TO PUT UP WITH JUST TO BUY A NEW CORVETTE?

MAYBE CADILLAC CAN TAKE OVER ALL NEW CORVETTES AND DO A BETTER JOB.
    THANKS FOR LISTENING.

  4. This is what happens when you let a woman run your company; unnecessary drama, disaster and then eventual failure. Somebody better get some Y chromosomes in there to clean this mess up before it crosses the rubicon.

  5. Mandatory subscription…not happening with my wallet. I was in the market for a new mid-size truck (currently own a Colorado). Chevy just made my decision easier.

  6. If I buy something it is mine. I will do what I want with it. GM trying to control what I do after it’s mine is BS and should be illegal. If they want to let me have it for a year then pay for it is the only way this is right.

  7. I have been saving for a year and a half now so I can purchase a C8. I have 25 grand saved up so far. I think I will go ahead and just keep saving and purchase a badass C7. Chevy can take their overpriced C8 and all the problems with it and shove it up their ass.

  8. Oh Yeah, this is what happens when you put a woman in charge. Fire this worthless airhead, along with alot of others who are in charge and are failing this company and its customers.

  9. I was just curious does anyone know about how many Z06’s could be produced in 2023.Any sort of guess would be appreciated. Thanks to all
