[ACCIDENT] On the Rocks! New 2023 Corvette Stingray with Temporary Tags Crashes in Texas

Whoever the owner is of this 2023 Corvette Stingray, we’re feeling bad for you buddy. We caught these photos of the crashed Corvette that were shared on the Corvette Forum and right away we noticed the new-for-’23 wheels and it had a temporary license plate to boot. Doh!

We know nothing we can say can alleviate the pain you are feeling right now, but hopefully, others can learn from it and not total their new Stingrays within the first few weeks of ownership.

According to the original poster on CF, the accident happened in the Mt. Bonnell area of Austin, Texas. Our guess is a too much speed on the narrow, twisty roads resulted in the Stingray coming to rest in the ditch at an angle. The front left tire obviously hit an unmovable object and pieces of the Corvette’s front fascia are scattered in front of the car.

These next two photos show a tow truck attempting to remove the car from its predicament.

Is that second photo real or is it an optical illusion? It looks like the car is on the truck only by its front wheels and the rear corner of the car is balanced on the rock? Wish we could see more about how the car was loaded onto the flatbed.

We hope the owner was uninjured. This is a stark reminder that accidents like this could happen to anyone, especially when the car is new and you’re still learning its quirks and driving feel. As the original poster said, make sure you take advantage of the discount at Spring Mountain and the C8 Corvette Owner’s School.

  1. I’m sorry, but I don’t feel any remorse for the owner/driver unless the car was stolen. My advice, learn how to drive the car before you attempt driving fast on a twisty road.

  2. Pro Tip:

Learn to drive the car before pushing it. Last time I checked Ron Fellows and Spring Mountain have schools with C8s, and we get a discount for it if we get a C8.

No remorse for this guy…unless it was stolen

  3. Isn’t the C8 limited/governed to low rpms for the first 1000 miles, or something like that, before you can start caning it? I’ll be kind and suggest maybe some crazy ran him off the road. 🙂

  4. This probably happen near the north west side of Austin area because that wrecker is from Austin. This is also an area where there are a lot of deer on the roadways which might have or might not have caused the wreck. Sad to see for sure.

  5. I have seen so many of the C8s wrecked.I have owned corvettes for a long time some were very fast.I dont like the C8 but I hate to see mishaps like this. My opinion when the front engine stopped I will keep the one I own.Different strokes for different folks……

  6. Chevrolet acknowledged when the C8 was released, that with the alignment in stock standard form, the car would excessively push when entering a turn at high speed. The cure, and Chevrolet stated this, was to have the front end aligned for the track specs, which would improve the handling and make the C8 more balanced. My thought is a lot of these C8s that are crashed on tight turns or twisty roads most likely pushed excessively when entering a turn.

  7. The engine brake in period is for the first 500 miles and is rev limited to 4500 rpm, with a green zone of 3500 rpm during this period. The driver could have hit a rock that fell into the road or another road hazard. We should not assume he or she was doing something wrong.

  8. To find out what happened, Run the PDR (Performance Data Recorder), if the driver had it on.

  9. Not knowing the facts it’s impossible to say how or what happened. That being said I feel for the owner. Ron Fellows driving school is your friend go there.
