[VIDEO] Corvette Mechanic Paul Koerner Shares C6 Corvette Blank Clock Navigation Fix

We started hearing about C6 Corvettes with Navigation suddenly losing their clocks following a battery disconnect sometime early last year and we are somewhat surprised on how long it has taken to get a fix for this. Luckily, there is now a process to restore the clock function to your navigation screens thanks to our friend Paul Koerner aka TheCorvetteMechanic!

Paul is a GM World Class Technician who wrenches on Corvettes and other GM vehicles at Key Chevrolet in Middletown, CT. I had asked him about this after a friend’s C6 with Nav suddenly lost its clock and I remember him telling me to be patient as he said there would be a fix coming for this at some point.

On his Facebook page, Paul shares the following video to announce that a fix is now available and the good news is that its something you can do yourself for pennies! All you need is a computer, a blank CD-R, and these instructions and you’re all set.

Here’s the step-by-step instructions:

Click the link below and download the file:

https://tis2web.akamai.gm.com/radio/corvette_gps_my_05_10_fix.zip

Burn the LOADING.KWI to a BLANK CD-R. Once this is completely burned and finished, go to your Corvette

#1 Make sure the vehicle is outside and the engine is running.

#2 On the radio display, press the Open/Close Faceplate Key

#3 Eject the map disc by pressing DVD Map Database Eject Key. Insert the Software Update Disc in the DVD Map Database Slot

The update will start automatically. You will see a progress bar on the screen. The update takes about 2 minutes. The vehicle logo will be seen once the update is completed.

Once you see the Corvette logo, remove the update disc and REINSTALL YOUR MAP DISC!

THIS IS NOT A MAP UPDATE! THIS IS ONLY FOR YOUR CLOCK BEING BLANK! If you have any further questions, check out this tread at TheCorvetteMechanic.com

All the best, and THANK YOU TO CORVETTE ENGINEERING for this fix.

Paul

  1. IT WORKS! Followed instructions step by step, on my 2010 and the clock now works. Thanks to Paul and the CORVETTE Blogger.

  2. Keith, let me join Thomas is shouting, IT WORKS!!!!! I have an ’09 Z51 roadster that “lost its clock” after a visit to dealership for some work. I searched the web and discovered that my problem wasn’t unique and that no one had a real solution. Paul is terrific, and as Thomas said, the instructions were clear and easy to follow. I’ve passed Paul’s solution on to all the C6 owners in my Club (SLO Vettes, San Luis Obispo, CA) who if they don’t need it now probably will in the future. Many thanks to you and CORVETTE Blogger for publishing this.

  3. Is this a one-time fix? Or is it possible that the clock could still be lost again in the future and need to have this procedure redone? My 2012 ZR1 has not lost the clock after disconnecting the battery twice in the last 2 years. Does that mean I won’t have this problem? Just trying to understand it. Thanks very much.

  4. 2006 C6, worked great. It took about 3 minutes to unzip and burn the CD. Followed the directions and the clock appeared with the correct time and date. Many thanks to Paul for the fix and Keith for the post.
