Penn State Chinese Exchange Student Killed in Corvette Crash

A twenty-one-year-old Penn State student from China was killed early Saturday morning after the C7 Corvette he was driving crashed at South Atherton Street and West Nittany Avenue in State College, PA.

Authorities believe that Kaijing Tang of China was driving the Corvette at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle around 4:22 am and struck a tree. Tang was pronounced dead at the scene.

Photos of the Corvette Stingray show that it was cut in two after hitting a large tree along the side of the road. The rear axle and wheels of the car were along side of the road while the bulk of the car landed next to a house.

First responders from the Alpha Fire Company initially thought that two vehicles were involved in the crash, and then found that it was one car that had been split into two pieces.

“Such tragic news. We share our deepest condolences with the family and friends of Kaijing Tang and with all whose lives he touched,” Penn State spokesperson Lisa Powers said. “Penn State Student Affairs is reaching out to his family and will offer any necessary support.”

The Penn State student directory listed Tang as an undergraduate student who was studying computer science.

  1. Hi GC. I get this question occasionally and am happy to answer. We cover all aspects of driving Corvettes and living the Corvette lifestyle. It’s unfortunate that we see our cars involved in accidents and even more so when a driver like this college student has lost their life. Some of these crashes are unavoidable and others could be avoided had drivers used common sense. Maybe a Corvette owner will remember seeing a post like this and think I don’t want to end up like that. I will also note that these posts do get a lot more page views than some of our other categories and I will have readers sending me news clippings or photos of Corvette accidents in their area. It’s not a category that everyone likes and we try to be as respectful to those parties involved no matter the situation. — Keith

  2. There’s a handful of Asian students driving their Masareti’s, Lamborghinis, and Corvettes….maybe their Uber Rich parents shouldn’t buy them such powerful cars. Since they’re clearly not responsible enough to drive them. This is very unfortunate.
