[VIDEO] Sounds of the C8 Mid-Engine Corvette on the Nurburgring

So lots of news this week with the C8 Mid-Engine Corvettes testing over in Germany at the Nurburgring.

Thanks to the Dale Lomas post over at Road and Track, there has been some considerable discussion about a lap time that shall go unmentioned. If you haven’t read that piece yet, Dale says he timed the C8 Corvette during the recent private track session but will not release the times as he says the team is benchmarking the car and as the times are not sub 7s, they are not worth posting:

I stop the second timer. I look again. It’s not a lap record, it’s not even close. And it’s certainly not the first American supercar to go under seven minutes. That’s all I really need to know. It’s all anybody needs to know.

Now this may sound contra to our mission here at CorvetteBlogger, but I’m throwing out some kudos to Dale for NOT posting the lap times.

Traditionally, and most recently demonstrated in the C6 and C7 generations, Chevrolet has developed and released the base Corvettes first and then moved to the performance versions in years 2-4. The Corvette that is currently testing on the Nurburgring is most likely the base version powered by the LT1 V8. Thanks to Jim Mero’s retirement, we learned that the LT1 powered Stingray and Grand Sports ran the Nurburgring at 7:33 (s) and 7:27 respectively (The Stingray time based on track segment times).

A C8 Corvette with roughly the same power would probably record a lap time consistent with the C7 Grand Sport. But could you imagine how that news would be portrayed if Dale’s timing of the C8 Corvette reflected a time of 7:25 or higher? Some out there are equating the C8 as greater than the ZR1 and that just isn’t so in its current form. As far as bringing out the haters by simply publishing a lap time that people think should be faster, just flashback to when the 2019 Corvette ZR1 was said to have run a sub-par time while Porsche nails a sub-7-second lap and that’s all you need to know.

So I wanted to put that out there.

Here is something new and it makes a nice way to close out this busy week of C8 news.

A new video was posted today on YouTube that features the C8 Mid-Engine Corvettes running on the Nurburgring. Some really good sounds coming through as the mid-engine Corvettes run on the track and you can see it passing some other cars as well.
