Bloomington Gold Makes Changes to 2011 Corvette Judging Schedule

Article Contributed by Steve Burns

The 39th annual Bloomington Gold Corvette show will see major changes this year as organizers have shuffled the weekend’s judging schedule again for the 2nd time in the last few years. The June 23rd – 26th, 2011 event to be held at the Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, IL will divide up its Survivor, Gold Certification, and Benchmark judging across 3 days for this year’s show. Previously, Survivor judging had been on Thursdays, Gold Certification on Fridays, and the drive-through awards ceremony on Saturday morning.

The biggest change splits the Survivor road tour and judging into 2 separate days of activity. The road test portion of Survivor judging moves from its recent Thursday morning timeslot to 1pm on Thursday afternoon. The stringent Gold Certification judging stays put on Friday and now adds a social hour for owners starting at 6pm. Owners hoping to gain the coveted Survivor and Benchmark awards will have their cars evaluated again on Saturday morning. The awards ceremony will shift into gear at 2pm Saturday afternoon. Sunday still features the recently launched Survivor Collector Car Show which is open to all makes and models.

The Bloomington Gold staff has made a number of format changes over the last couple of years in order to keep the show fresh. The most notable change was last year’s debut of The Great Hall which replaced The Special Collection.

As with any change, you can expect both supporters and naysayers to share their opinions. Either way, you must commend the folks at Bloomington Gold for continuing to evolve their product as the Corvette hobby grows and changes. As a 20+ year attendee of this Corvette show, I’m looking forward to seeing the new schedule firsthand.

We’re still 6 months away, but as the show approaches CorvetteBlogger.com will preview this year’s gathering and provide a full wrap up once the event is over. If you’ve never been to this marquee Corvette event, you owe it yourself get there for at least one of the four show days. You definitely won’t regret it.
