Each year in early November the automotive aftermarket heads to Las Vegas to show off all of their newest wares. While we’re still recovering from last week’s show out in Vegas we want to hear from our readers. Of the scads of custom Corvettes out in the desert last week what was your favorite?
Last week at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, the National Corvette Museum’s Sinkhole was a topic of conversation for many Corvette enthusiasts but this time its in the news for all the right reasons. Chevrolet used the spotlight of SEMA to showcase the completed restoration of the 2009 Corvette ZR1 Blue Devil prototype that was damaged after falling into the sinkhole that opened up in the middle of the NCM’s skydome in February.
Ever since attending our first SEMA show, we’ve been hooked. And it’s not hard to see why either. There’s a ton of Corvette eye candy waiting to be seen with a different take on the car at just about every booth. Then tie in the cool new Corvette-related products, hot booth girls and the excitement of Las Vegas and that just about sums up what SEMA is all about.
Armed with our trusty Canon DSLR, we went hunting for Corvettes at the 2014 SEMA show and by our count, came up nearly 70 different cars ranging from a 1958 restomod to the 2015 Corvette Z06 Convertible.
Chevrolet held a media reception Monday evening on the eve of the 2014 SEMA Show in Las Vegas where the automaker unveiled some of the concepts and special edition vehicles that will be displayed at the show beginning on Tuesday.
Opening the event was the 2009 Corvette ZR1 Blue Devil that was recovered from the National Corvette Museum’s sinkhole. The Corvette was sent back to GM in September where it underwent repairs. Tonight that mighty LS9 roared to life once again as it became the first of Chevrolet’s SEMA vehicles to take the stage.

This weekend, several Corvettes that have been converted to run on E85, a high octane blend of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent unleaded gasoline, will be strutting their stuff in Nebraska.

Despite the world-class reviews of the C7′s Corvette Stingray and the coming main attraction, the 650 horsepower 2015 Corvette Z06, you would think we would be content to focus on the most advanced Corvettes ever produced. But as always, there are rumors afoot about a next generation Corvette and the main question on everybody’s minds is will Chevy finally bring a mid-engined Corvette to market.
Even though the C7 Corvette Z06 has yet to start production, it’s never too early to start speculating on the next generation Corvette, the C8. After last month’s rumors of a mid-engine super-Corvette dubbed either the Zora or ZR1 from Motor Trend, Car and Driver follows up with their preview of the next King of the Hill Corvette in their October 2014 issue.
Chevrolet and the National Corvette Museum have announced their game plan for restoration of three of the classic Corvettes damaged when they were swallowed by a sinkhole inside the museum in February.
Two of the cars – the 2009 Corvette ZR1 prototype nicknamed the “Blue Devil” and the 1-millionth Corvette produced (a 1992 white convertible) – will be repaired by Chevrolet, which will also pay for the restoration of the black 1962 Corvette to be overseen by the museum.
