Despite the world-class reviews of the C7′s Corvette Stingray and the coming main attraction, the 650 horsepower 2015 Corvette Z06, you would think we would be content to focus on the most advanced Corvettes ever produced. But as always, there are rumors afoot about a next generation Corvette and the main question on everybody’s minds is will Chevy finally bring a mid-engined Corvette to market.
Even though the C7 Corvette Z06 has yet to start production, it’s never too early to start speculating on the next generation Corvette, the C8. After last month’s rumors of a mid-engine super-Corvette dubbed either the Zora or ZR1 from Motor Trend, Car and Driver follows up with their preview of the next King of the Hill Corvette in their October 2014 issue.
Chevrolet and the National Corvette Museum have announced their game plan for restoration of three of the classic Corvettes damaged when they were swallowed by a sinkhole inside the museum in February.
Two of the cars – the 2009 Corvette ZR1 prototype nicknamed the “Blue Devil” and the 1-millionth Corvette produced (a 1992 white convertible) – will be repaired by Chevrolet, which will also pay for the restoration of the black 1962 Corvette to be overseen by the museum.
After giving initial signs a few months ago that a portion of the sinkhole would remain as a tourist attraction, the museum’s board of directors voted Saturday instead to fill the hole and restore the building to its previous condition.
We’ve apparently learned the fate of at least one of the eight Corvettes swallowed up by the sinkhole at the National Corvette Museum in February.
The museum has announced that the 2009 Blue Devil ZR1 prototype – the property of General Motors and among the least damaged by the sinkhole – will be heading back to GM for restoration after the NCM’s upcoming 20th anniversary celebration on Labor Day weekend. No one has said where the Blue Devil will be displayed after repairs are made.
It’s not quite the 8-second Blue Devil promised in the title, but this Corvette ZR1 is very fast and produces massive burnouts.

We’ve all seen that famous video where a Corvette Z06 overtakes a car on the autobahn at 200 mph. It looks like these guys down in “Mexico” attempted to recreate the scene to see how a 200 mph fly-by from a Corvette ZR1 would look to another car doing the speed limit down the highway.
Checking the news this morning after a long weekend, I found this story on AutoSpies.com proclaiming that Chevrolet isn’t quite done with the C6 generation ZR1 yet. For 2014 and 2015, Chevy will still be offering not only the ZR1 in C6 form, but a special edition that’s been modified to run a 0-60 mph in 2.65 seconds and has a quarter mile time of 9.7 seconds at 140.2 mph.
A ZR1 coupe, one of the rarest Corvettes ever produced, will cross the block in Houston at Mecum’s three day auction April 10th through 12th. The 1972 Corvette ZR1 is one of only twenty produced and one of less than ten actual numbers matching production cars known to exist.
The Elkhart Green with saddle interior award winner is fully documented and has two tank stickers and is part of the Bloomington Gold Special Collection. With only 16,300 miles the car has the matching numbers LT1 engine, M22 “Rock Crusher” 4-speed transmission, J56 and F41 heavy duty brakes and suspension. It will cross the block on Friday, April 11, at Houston’s Reliant Center.
