1965 Corvette VIN 001 Heading to Mecum's Kissimmee Auction

The 1965 Corvette Sting Ray was in its day the C7 of the era, you might say.

The third year of the second generation featured serious updates for drivers, not the least of which was Zora’s long-awaited disc brakes at all four wheels to provide the best possible stopping ability for the time.

Just as the C7 is the darling of the car magazines these days, so was the 1965 Corvette that was finally judged not only an American status symbol but a genuine high-performance sports car capable of thrilling even the most demanding drivers.

Chevrolet dealer and NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick was at the National Corvette Museum on Tuesday to take delivery of two new 2015 Corvette Z06s. The two Corvette Z06s were VIN 001 and VIN 003 and not only does Rick take delivery of the first Corvette Z06, his Corvette Z06 is also the first Z06 to be delivered to a customer, courtesy of the R8C Museum Delivery Program.

Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale to Sell First Retail 2015 Corvette Z06 Convertible

Once again Chevrolet has chosen “The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auction”, Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale flagship event to offer their first retail production 2015 Corvette Z06 Convertible. Over the last several years Barrett-Jackson has been Chevrolet’s choice to showcase the crown jewel of their model line-up by offering VIN 001 of a new model Corvette to benefit various charities. According to Gary Bennett, vice president of consignments at Barrett Jackson, the beneficiary of the 2015 Z06 Convertible proceeds will be the United Way of Michigan.

Continuing our recap of the January 2012 Corvette auctions, we bring to you the no-reserve sale of the first Corvette ZR1 to be produced in 2010. First VIN Corvettes have always been a hot commodity among collectors, highlighted by the purchase of the 2009 VIN 001 Corvette ZR1 for $1 million by Dave Ressler. Unlike the first year ZR1, this 2010 Corvette ZR1 is meant to be driven as the first owner put 3,934 miles on the Jetstream Blue sports car.
