The Chip’s Choice display for this year’s Corvettes at Carlisle continues to take shape. Back in February we told you about the George Barris-built Asteroid Corvette scheduled to appear. Now joining that custom 1963 is another custom 1963 – this one with an Italian flare. Corvettes at Carlisle announced in their most recent email newsletter that the Corvette Rondine built by Pininfarina will also be in the Chip’s Choice display this year.
Last week Chris from Callaway Cars tipped us off to a thread he started on the Corvette Forum where he shows off the most recent Callaway C16 to roll out of their shop. He says the Night Race Blue machine is all finished and ready to be shipped to its owner. We wish it was coming to our garage instead.
Just days after Ken Lingenfelter of Lingenfelter Performance Engineering said the new C7 may not be capable of producing much more than 700-hp, Hennessey Performance Engineering has announced it plans to offer two very powerful engine performance upgrades for the 2014 Corvette Stingray later this year.
Tuners have had a field day with the LS family of V8 engines from General Motors, improving their performance levels to pull upwards of an amazing 1,000-hp from them in some cases.
Now that the LT1 motor has upped the ante to at least 450-hp in the base Stingray for the 2014 model year, tuners should be able to get even higher numbers than they are with the current LS1 motor, right?
Not so fast, warns Ken Lingenfelter of renowned Lingenfelter Performance Engineering.
The C6 Corvette ZR1 may be in its closing months of production, but that doesn’t mean it still doesn’t have some life left in it.
For example, a few days ago, Japanese tuning house RK Design unveiled a custom ZR1 for the 2013 Tokyo Auto Salon.
If an “ordinary” ZR1 isn’t enough for you, you might want to check out this ZX-1 that’s been hopped up to a whopping 860-hp by Bennett Coachworks out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
This particular monster pictured at Automobile Magazine will be displayed in the lobby of Brembo’s North American headquarters in Plymouth, Michigan before its new owner – Datanational Corp. CEO Paul Greenstone – takes possession.
German tuners GeigerCars has made a reputation building some outrageous special editions from American cars, including Corvettes, Camaros and Chargers.
But quality work doesn’t come with a cheap price tag.
This special Corvette ZR1 pumps out 730-hp, but GeigerCars says it is completely streetworthy.
In the late 1970′s the 3rd generation Corvette was languishing thanks to an aging platform and new government emissions and fuel economy requirements. Eager gearheads would do just about anything to make their ride stand out from the crowd. Enter customizer Les Dunham and the Corvette Caballista. His Dunham Coach Motor Car Company built just 50 Caballistas between 1977 and 1982. The example seen here is a later model based on 1982 Collector Edition Corvette.
