Last week we posted a video of Corvette’s Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter talking about the C7 Corvette while at the C5/C6 Bash at the Corvette Museum. The conversation was prefaced with Juechter discussing the automotive magazines and their misrepresentation of the facts and he specifically called out Automobile Magazine for their June 2010 article in which, according to Tadge, they implied that he was endorsing a V6 power plant for the next generation Corvette. Today we received an email from Automobile Magazine with a link to the article in question as well as their response to Juechter’s criticism.
At the C5/C6 Bash at the Corvette Museum, Corvette’s Chief Engineer delivered some remarks about the next generation C7 Corvette which he said is now getting underway in earnest. Tadge prefaced his comments with a warning about how the auto magazines will claim to have inside information or renderings when in fact they are basically making it up, and for us owners to not buy into all the hype. To demonstrate, he held up a copy of the June 2010 Automobile Magazine which, as Tadge says, included a photoshopped picture of him with an article that supposedly has Juechter endorsing a V6.
The big news coming out of the Corvette Museum’s C5/C6 Bash is the enhancements made to the 2011 Z06. The last couple of years have seen the Z06 bracketed by two new models, the high performance ZR1 and the better than stock Corvette Grand Sport. Other than a few updates, the Z06 remained relatively unchanged since its introduction in 2006. In refreshing the Z06, Corvette engineers listened to the owners have provided several enhancements designed to keep the Z06 on the cutting edge of performance while maintaining its edge as the most trackable Corvette in the model lineup.

Corvette Chief Engineer and VLE Performance Vehicles Tadge Juechter and Corvette Product Marketing Manager Harlan Charles spoke Saturday morning to Corvette enthusiasts in the Corvette Corral tent at the 2010 12 Hours of Sebring. In this two-part video, they covered topics including the transfer of technology that goes hand in hand with racing and production and again they discussed the new 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition.
Members of GM’s Corvette team were at the 12 Hours of Sebring on Friday, March 19, 2010 to unveil the new 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition. This new Corvette for 2011 features the Z07 package which includes the Corvette ZR1′s Brembo carbon ceramic brakes, front splitter, 19/20″ black wheels with Michelin PS2s, rear ZR1-style spoiler plus a custom suede interior.
We also learned some other new features for the 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon not covered in the press release: A new tuned exhaust system, custom VIN and the ability to choose between different steering settings.
The Corvette ZR1′s Nürburgring lap time of 7:26.4 last month has indelibly cemented the fact that this is the fastest Corvette ever produced by General Motors. Driven by GM Development Engineer Jim Mero, the Corvette ZR1 ran a blistering lap with speeds approaching 180 mph on the 12.9 mile, 100 corner Nordschleife besting the previous fastest Corvette, a Z06 driven in 2005 by Jan Magnussen by nearly 17 seconds. The video of this historic run was released this afternoon by GM and can be viewed after the jump.
