One of the interesting displays at the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance was from Hagerty Insurance. It’s the 50th anniversary for two automotive icons – the Porsche 911 and the Corvette Sting Ray – and Hagerty asked fans to vote for their favorite.
The new 2014 Corvette Stingray was one of the star attractions at the Amelia Island Concours earlier this month. In addition to showing off the new C7, they also gathered together a collection of some very rare 1963 Sting Rays as well. GM’s VP of Global Design Ed Welburn was asked to put together his list of the top 10 Chevrolet’s ever produced as the company celebrates the 100 years since the founding of the brand. As head of the General Motors design studios, Welburn follows in the footsteps of legendary Chevy designers Harley Earl and Bill Mitchell. As such, Welburn picks are tightly focused on the heritage of style and innovation that resulted in some of the most iconic cars and trucks produced by the automaker. In his list of top 10 Chevys, two of Welburn’s picks are Corvettes.
Earlier this year in May, GM filed a trademark with the US Patent and Trademark Office for the name “Stingray” for use on “motor land vehicles, namely, automobiles”. This is leading to speculation that GM may be registering the name in advanced of launching the C7 Corvette which is expected sometime between 2012-2014.
RM Auctions sold a small contingent of seven classic Corvettes at their Monterey sale held August 12-14th at the Portola Hotel and Spa. The seven Corvettes ranging from 1953-1963 brought in $789,250 in total Corvette sales.
Here are some real world photos of the C6 Corvette-based Rossi SixtySix from its appearance at the Bloomington Gold Corvette show last weekend. While computer renderings are cool in all, it’s refreshing to see a car actually live up to the hype.
Almost two years ago the world was introduced to the Rossi SixtySix, a C6 Corvette refitted with custom panels that borrow some of the best design features of the 1963-67 Sting Rays while updating the mid-year look for the 21 century. No longer just a dream, the Rossi SixtySix project is tooled up and well underway with the first car, a Pearl White Split Window Coupe making its public debut this Sunday at Detroit’s EyesOn Design benefit.
