But that’s what makes the Corvette so great for enthusiasts. We crave to know every minute detail about how our beloved sports car came into existence.

If you’re like me, that makes a new book by someone who was actually there when the 1963 Corvette Sting Ray was in the planning stages, very special indeed.

The Earliest Known 1963 Corvette Sting Ray

Back in 2006 and 2007 ProTeam Corvette Sales purchased, restored, and sold the last 1967 Corvette produced. The Last Sting Ray fetched $660,000 at the 2007 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction and was the subject of a series on SPEED.

Proteam has an article on their website about the very first Corvette Sting Ray, a silver 1963 coupe built under a Shop Order in 1962. The has car spent its entire life in Europe and has been rarely seen. Its last 30 years have been spent in a private collection. The new 2014 Corvette Stingray was one of the star attractions at the Amelia Island Concours earlier this month. In addition to showing off the new C7, they also gathered together a collection of some very rare 1963 Sting Rays as well. GM's Welburn Selects two Corvettes in List of Top 10 Chevrolets

As such, Welburn picks are tightly focused on the heritage of style and innovation that resulted in some of the most iconic cars and trucks produced by the automaker. In his list of top 10 Chevys, two of Welburn’s picks are Corvettes.

Rossi SixtySix Fuses Classic Corvette Sting Ray Looks with C6 Technology

Almost two years ago the world was introduced to the Rossi SixtySix, a C6 Corvette refitted with custom panels that borrow some of the best design features of the 1963-67 Sting Rays while updating the mid-year look for the 21 century. No longer just a dream, the Rossi SixtySix project is tooled up and well underway with the first car, a Pearl White Split Window Coupe making its public debut this Sunday at Detroit’s EyesOn Design benefit.
