During its 5 year model run between 1987 and 1991, Callaway assembled over 500 total cars under the RPO B2K moniker. The Callaway option package was upgraded slightly each year of its 5-year run. The peak came in 1991 when the visually stunning Speedster body style was unleashed. Only 10 were produced and here’s your chance to score Speedster #007 before it’s gone.
This is a big weekend for car auctions as most of the major auction houses are descending on Monterey, California for a weekend full of classic and collector car sales. Although fairly new to the Monterey scene, Mecum Auctions has a full slate of cars ready to be sold during their Monterey Daytime Auction which kicks off on Thursday and runs through Saturday. On the Mecum sales docket are 42 Corvettes that are ready for new homes and several of these Vettes are worthy of a closer look.
You’ll be thinking about this Corvette all day and wondering why…
The best and closest look yet at the new topless Corvette Stingray Concept comes from this cell video which captured Sideswipe in alt-mode on Chicago’s Michigan Avenue during filming of Transformers 3. As the Corvette concept passes a group of onlookers, they collectively gasped as the distinctive Corvette V8 sound rumbled from the stingray’s tailpipes.
Director Michael Bay has turned his 3D cameras to Chicago to provide the backdrop for more robot vs robot mayhem and the new Corvette Stingray Concept appeared to be in the thick of it along with several NASCAR themed Decepticons. Bumblebee reprises his role in the Camaro and Optimus Prime gains a trailer. Exciting stuff for sure!
Last week we unearthed a picture of the Corvette Sting Ray Concept with its top chopped in Beverly Hills. We were able to point out numerous differences between the original concept car and the convertible pictured which led us to believe it was a kit, albeit poorly done. However, a youtube video has surfaced taken by a bystander during filming of Transformers 3 in Los Angeles that leads us to believe that the Corvette Sting Ray Concept has indeed lost its top for the third and final chapter of the popular movie franchise.
Ahh, Southern California. The land where fact and fiction can blur and what you see may not always be the case. That’s what we think when taking a look at a Speedster version of the 50th Anniversary Corvette Stingray Concept that was recently spotted parked on a street in Beverly Hills.
Here is a beautiful Callaway Speedster that is listed for sale over at Fantasy Junction. This 1999 Corvette C12 Callaway Speedster is one of only two C12 speedsters produced and the execution of this special purpose-built Corvette is by far one of the best I’ve ever seen. Check out some pics of this awesome metallic blue Callaway after the jump.
One of more interesting time periods for Corvette came midway through the C4 production run when you could order a twin-turbo for your Corvette. In 1991, the B2K twin-turbo RPO was the only non-GM performance option that could be ordered on a Corvette. This limited edition 1991 Series 1 Corvette Callaway Speedster is #8 of 10 made and used to be part of the Otis Chandler collection before being acquired by Chevrolet dealer and Corvette collector Bob McDorman.
