Back in May we told you about John Buttermore, the Lead Development Engineer on the Chevy Sonic program who also just happens to be the defending SCCA Touring 1 National Champion. Now make that the 2 –time defending National Champion. Buttermore recently piloted his Corvette to his 2nd consecutive Touring 1 National Championship during the SCCA runoffs at Road America.
You might say two old friends will be celebrating a special anniversary later this month.
The second annual Corvette World Tribute is slated on Sunday, August 19 at Road America, where 60 years of Corvettes will be marked with a variety of special events.
There’s a little bit of Corvette in every Chevrolet product made, including the small-size Sonic.

A legend in the Corvette world for more than 50 years passed away last Tuesday in Newport Beach, Calif.
Andy Porterfield first started racing Corvettes in 1957, and amazingly he was still racing them in 2012 at the age of 80!
His parents wanted him to become a lawyer, but Dick Guldstrand listened to his heart instead and became one of the most successful Corvette racers of all time.
Now in a Youtube video posted recently, Car Museum 2010 interviews Guldstrand at the Legends of Riverside in March 2010 about another side of the racing legend.
The last car raced by renowned actor Paul Newman will be one of the features at RM Auctions’ Amelia Island sale next month in Florida. As lot #130, Newman’s 2002 #83 SCCA Corvette racer will cross the block on March 10, 2012. Newman raced the car from 2003 to 2007 and was victorious in it at his last race one year before he died in 2008.
Leake Auction Company will be offering over 30 Corvettes for sale at their upcoming Dallas event. The three day sale will take place Friday, November 18th through Sunday, November 20th at Market Hall in Dallas, Texas. Among the Corvette offerings are two very rare cars: a 1961 big tank racecar and a 1971 LS6 Coupe. You can read more about each lot after the break.
When one spends $1.25 million on a vintage Corvette that has won Top Flight, Bloomington Gold and most recently the Triple Diamond award, the last thing any sane person would do is turn it into a race car and take it to the race track. But that’s exactly what Pro Team Corvette president Terry Michaelis and collector Chuck Ungurean have planned to do with the Corvette they purchased last August at Mecum’s Monterey auction. And who better to drive the race-prepped Hanley Dawson Chevrolet Corvette in vintage ’67 livery than the original driver and Corvette Hall of Famer Tony DeLorenzo.
It’s not often that I’ll talk up a car that’s not a Corvette, but after watching Cadillac’s return to the SCCA World Challenge with their CTS-V Coupe Racers with Corvette Racing alumni Andy Pilgrim and Johnny O’Connell behind the wheel, I became a fan real fast. After Round 1′s race on Saturday which resulted in a 4th place finish for O’Connell, we sat down with the former C6.R driver to discuss his leaving Corvette Racing for Cadillac, the Cadillac CTS-V racer and his future racing plans.
Proteam Corvette recently came across a split window barn car that turned out to be a 1963 Corvette Z06 Tanker that was raced throughout 1963 by Josh (A.W.) Joslin.
