With the 12 Hours of Sebring approaching this Saturday, Chevrolet published this video today featuring a look at Corvette Racing’s C7.R and the Daytona Prototypes Corvettes fared at the Rolex 24 in Daytona.
Want to see what a few laps was like from a drivers perspective during the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona? Tommy Milner, co-driver of the No.4 Corvette C7.R, wore a GoPro camera mounted to his helmet during one of his practice stints. We get to see him suit up and then climb into the new Corvette racecar during a night time pit stop and then drive off to rejoin the field.
Corvette is off to a good start in the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series.
Max Angelelli, Jordan Taylor, and Ryan Hunter-Reay – competing for Wayne Taylor Racing – came through with the first-ever Daytona 24 podium position for the Corvette Daytona Prototype as their No. 10 Velocity Worldwide Corvette DP finished second on Sunday during the 51st running of the Rolex 24 at Daytona.
The Corvette Daytona Prototypes made their inaugural debut at the 50th Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona. After a brutal 24 hours of round-the-clock racing, the No. 5 Action Express Corvette DP led the way for Team Chevy and the Corvette DPs with a 5th place overall finish. Corvette Racing’s factory drivers in the No. 90 Spirit of Daytona Racing Corvette DP finished 8th while in GT, Tommy Milner and Jordan Taylor in the No. 88 Autohaus Camaro GT.R finished 10th in class.
Chevrolet is ready to kick off the GRAND-AM Racing 2012 season as five new Corvette Daytona Prototypes are ready for their first combat mission at this weekend’s Rolex 24 at the Daytona International Speedway. The five Corvette DPs will allow Chevrolet to challenge for the overall win at the Rolex 24 for the first time in 11 years. Also competing at the Rolex 24 under the Team Chevy banner are three Camaros running in the GT class.
It was announced today that Corvette Racing ace Oliver Gavin will be joining the Spirit Of Daytona’s GRAND-AM racing team where he’ll be driving in three endurance races during the 2012 Rolex Sports Car Series. Gavin will drive the new Corvette Daytona Prototype with current Corvette Racing endurance team mates Antonio Garcia and Richard Westbrook in the Rolex 24 at Daytona, the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen at Watkins Glen and the Indianapolis 3 Hour race.
GRAND-AM’s Spirit of Daytona announced today that Richard Westbrook will be joining the team for the entire 2012 Rolex Sports Car Series season. Westbrook will be driving the No. 90 Corvette Daytona Prototype along with returning Spirit of Daytona Driver Antonio Garcia.
It appears that Oliver Gavin will have a couple of rides in 2011, assuming that he maintains his seat with Corvette Racing in the American Le Mans Series. Olly announced that he will be racing in the Grand Am/Rolex Series with Banner Racing’s Chevrolet Camaro. Gavin will share the No. 07 The Cool TV Camaro with Gunter Schaldach for the seven round series. Where the calendar conflicts with the ALMS, the C6.R driver expects ALMS races to take precedence.
