Bob Lutz Recounts Early Work on the Mid Engine Zora ZR1 Corvette Program

To paraphrase an old ad slogan, when Bob Lutz talks (or writes), people listen.

In a blog for Road & Track released yesterday, the veteran auto executive gives some insider background on the mid-engine Corvette that looks like it might finally become a reality after all these decades of teasing.

Lutz says the company has been thinking about a mid-engine Corvette for more than a decade, and he believes the stars may be lined up now for such a car.

By all accounts, Chevrolet has a hit on its hands with the new C7 Corvette Stingray Coupe but already the automotive journos are looking to the future as they ask what’s next for GM’s halo car.

Earlier this week was the report from Motor Trend that the C7 Corvette ZR1 could be packing 700 horsepower.

Now from Road & Track, we get the opportunity to see just what a C7 Corvette ZR1 might look like via this rendering from the talented Theo Chin/Chris Doane Automotive.

Corvette Fever: Road & Track Tests Every New Corvette

Road & Track magazine has been testing Corvettes ever since the first one was built nearly 60 years ago.

But they may have outdone themselves with their current test of “every last single solitary new Corvette you can possibly buy. Or at least every version with a 6-speed manual and lots of options.”
