Corvette Racing at Road America: Magnussen, Garcia Keep GTLM Points Lead with P4 Finish


ELKHART LAKE, Wisc. (Aug. 9, 2015) – Despite a fourth place finish in the ultra-competitive GT Le Mans class, Corvette Racing’s Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen were the big winners for Chevrolet in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship’s Continental Tire Road Race Showcase at Road America on Sunday.

In GT Le Mans (GTLM), Garcia and Magnussen used clever strategy late in the race to battle back to a fourth place class finish with their No. 3 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R and increase their lead in the class’ Driver’s Championship.

Six class victories at Elkhart Lake since racing debut there in 2002

DETROIT (Aug. 5, 2015) – Corvette Racing returns to one of North America’s classic tracks this weekend: Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wis. The team’s two Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs are part of the GT Le Mans (GTLM) class field for Sunday’s Continental Tire Road Race Showcase – the seventh round of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship for Corvette Racing.

(Aug. 10, 2014) – Corvette Racing’s two Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs placed sixth and seventh in a hectic GT Le Mans (GTLM) race at the Continental Tire Road Race Showcase at Road America. Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen led the team’s charge in the No. 3 Corvette C7.R with Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner in the No. 4 Corvette following at the finish.

ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (Aug. 9, 2014) – Back at the site of its first test nearly a year ago, Corvette Racing’s two Corvette C7.Rs qualified sixth and eighth in the GT Le Mans (GTLM) class Saturday for the Continental Tire Road Race Showcase at Road America. Oliver Gavin was the quickest Corvette driver with a lap of 2:04.650 (116.910 mph) in the No. 4 C7.R that he drives with Tommy Milner.

The No. 3 Compuware Corvette C6.R of Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen placed second in the sixth round of the American Le Mans Series. Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner, driving the No. 4 Compuware Corvette, finished third.

That means the two velocity yellow Corvettes will roll off the grid one behind the other for Sunday’s sixth round of the American Le Mans Series. Antonio Garcia was second-quickest in the GT class with a 2:04.212 in the No. 3 Corvette he shares with Jan Magnussen.

[VIDEO] Wild Finish for Corvette Racing at ALMS Road America

I didn’t have the opportunity to catch the last few minutes of the American Le Mans Series at Road America on Saturday as we were in Detroit for the Woodward Dream Cruise. But I knew something significant had happened to the Corvettes when my twitter feed for Corvette Racing blew up with folks asking what the heck happened at the very end. Well, we did some digging and here is what went down during those final minutes at Road America.
