GM Performance Build Center Moving to Bowling Green

General Motors has announced that they will be moving their Performance Build Center from its current home in Wixom, MI to the Corvette Assembly Plant in Bowling Green, Ky. The low-volume production facility currently hand assembles all of the dry sump motors (LS7, LS9, and LS3 with manual tranny) for Corvettes. Previously, they also produced the powerplants for the Cadillac STS-V and XLR-V.

CorvetteBlogger visits the GM Performance Build Center

As part of the NCRS national convention last week we were able to participate in a tour of GM’s Performance Build Center. The facility is located about an hour northwest of Detroit in Wixom, MI. The low-volume plant hand assembles all of the dry sump motors for Corvettes. Previously, they also made the powerplants for the Cadillac STS-V and XLR-V. NASCAR's Hendrick Builds His Own LS7 for a 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Edition

NASCAR team owner and Chevy dealer Rick Hendrick spent today at Wixon’s Performance Build Center to take part in the Corvette Engine Build program. Hendrick built his own 505 horsepower LS7 V8 which will go into his Corvette Z06 Carbon Edition.

GM To Allow Owners To Build Their Own Corvette Engine

We heard back in January that GM was considering adding a program that would allow owners the opportunity to build the engine that would be installed in their new Corvette. Yesterday, GM announced that the Corvette Engine Build Program would be available starting in 2011 for customers who order a Corvette Z06 or ZR1.
