Nurburgring

Chevy Debunks Report of a Corvette Z06 Lapping Nurburgring in 6:59.13

Team Corvette has a Nurburgring problem.

After testing the new Corvette Z06 at the famous 12.9 mile track in Germany last year, circumstances which include a crash and rainy weather stopped the team from laying down a complete timed lap. Instead of staying in Germany and making it a priority, the team left town and that has ceded the conversation to others.

Corvette Enthusiasts 'Do the Math' to Calculate the Corvette Z06 Nurburgring Time

One of the modern validation points for benchmarking performance among sports car fans has become the car’s ability to put down a fast lap around the 12.9 mile Nurburgring in Germany. The Corvette Z06 has been there two years in row and in each occasion, the ability to lay down a complete timed lap was thwarted by the weather.

During a recent Question and Answer session hosted by Jalopnik with Corvette Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter, Tadge said they would only make public a fast lap that was complete and captured on video as opposed to offering a pieced-together “segmented time” which is what he says was all they have due to the weather. Of course, crashing the Z06 on the ‘Ring doesn’t help either.

Tadge said the Corvette Z06′s lap time at VIR’s Grand Course was 2:41.3, beating the C6 ZR1 by 4.3 seconds and then he threw down the challenge about the Nurburgring time which has been accepted by several members of the Corvette Forum – Do the Math!

[POLL] What Will the Corvette Z06's Nurburgring Time Be?

Germany’s famous Nurburging. 13 miles of ups, downs, twists, and turns affectionately referred to as the Green Hell. Over the last decade automakers have used ‘Ring lap times as a means to define the performance of their latest creations. Back in 2011 Corvette test driver Jim Mero lapped the Nordschleife (“North Course”) in 7:19.63 in a C6 ZR1. But what will the new 2015 Z06′s lap time be?

More of the 2015 Corvette Z06 at the Nurburgring. The original poster of this video claims the car is equipped with an F1 Gearbox but it’s most likely the new 8-Speed Automatic as has been previously claimed.

2015 Corvette Z06 reportedly armed with the 8-Speed Automatic Transmission was spotted testing on the Nurburgring.

We were pretty excited to hear that Chevrolet was testing the Corvette Z06 on the Nurburgring but after the seeing the yellow Corvette Z06 with the Z07 Performance Package had crashed, our hopes were dashed for a flying lap.

But now we know that Chevy took a Laguna Blue Corvette Z06 for testing on the Nurburgring as well, and according to unsubstantiated reports, this one is armed with the Stage 2 aerodynamics package along with the new 8-speed automatic.

We’ll keep checking back with Bridge2Gantry for any more updates.

While the initial photo shows a Laguna Blue Z06 Corvette and the graphic says “Corvette Z06″, the video actually is of a Corvette Stingray Z51 Coupe. Take a look at the rear spoiler which seems to have a clear “wicker-bill” like attachment that runs across the center top.

The sighting of the Corvette Stingray at the Nurburgring comes after the news of the 2015 Corvette Z06 testing (and crashing!) at the famous track.

[VIDEO] 2015 Corvette Z06 Spotted Testing at the Nurburgring

There’s just one special place on this earth where all serious manufacturers take their sports cars to be tested and that’s the Nurburgring.

Last year, Corvette Stingray fans were cheated out of the opportunity to see the new C7 run a fast lap due to rainy weather on the Nurburgring’s Nordschleife. But now the “Big Nasty” 2015 Corvette Z06 has been spotted testing on the famous 12.9 mile German track so let’s all say a prayer for clear skies and fast lap times.

[VIDEO] 2014 Corvette Stingray Tracks the Nurburgring

If you were hoping that this was the official Go-Fast lap for the 2014 Corvette Stingray on the Nurburgring, we are sorry to disappoint.

Last year as Chevrolet was working on suspension testing for the European version of the 2014 Corvette Stingray, part of that testing took place at Germany’s Nurburgring. Since then, Corvette enthusiasts have been clammoring for video of a fast lap at the ‘ring, but according to Corvette Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter, that didn’t happen due to inclimate weather which interrupted their one and only opportunity.
