The crew from Mecum Auctions rolls into the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines, IA this weekend for a 2 day event. As of this writing, over 230 cars were listed on the docket. Roughly 10% of those are Corvettes. Discovery’s HD Theater will provide 4 hours of live coverage each day from the event. Checkout some of our faves being offered this weekend after the jump.

Mecum's Bloomington Gold Auction Rakes in $5.8 million in Corvette Sales

The atmosphere at this year’s Bloomington auction was interesting. The tent was generally full of bidders and spectators all weekend. Surprisingly, though, bids were hard to come by at times. This can be seen in the numerous cars that sold for less than $10,000. On the flip side of this were the high-end cars. The 1971 ZR2 opened and bidding promptly stalled at $400k. A few moments later the bid was raised to $410k, the reserve was lifted, and the ZR2 was off to its new home.

The 39th rendition of the Bloomington Gold Corvette show takes place this week Thursday through Sunday (June 23rd – 26th) at the Pheasant Run Resort just west of Chicago. We’ve been doing the happy dance here all week as we get ready to head out to the show on Thursday morning. You already know about the return of the GoldTour, the Great Hall people, and Great Hall cars, as well as all the great topics that will be covered during the Cubic Knowledge seminars. Black Corvette Collection To Be Sold At Mecum's Bloomington Gold Auction

Mecum will be holding their annual Bloomington Gold auction this Friday and Saturday at the Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles IL. Over 400 Corvettes are expected to cross the block during the two day affair including a unique 23-car collection comprised entirely of Black Corvettes ranging from 1954-1969 which will be offered at no-reserve.

Mecum Auctions stops in at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds in St. Paul, MN this weekend for a 2 day sale that will feature about 400 cars and around a dozen Corvettes. 2009 Lingenfelter Corvette ZR1 Sells for $70,000 at Mecum's Indy Auction

We’ve noted several good Corvette buys this weekend at Dana Mecum’s Spring Auction in Indianapolis but I don’t think anyone was prepared to see a 2009 Corvette ZR1 sell for $70,000. But that’s what happened when the VIN #0006 crossed the auction block Saturday afternoon.

Here’s a 1965 Corvette that’s number 1 in our book. Actually, it’s the very first 1965 Corvette, VIN 194375S100001 and it crossed the auction block Wednesday evening at Mecum’s Spring Classic in Indianapolis. The Silver Pearl Coupe with the 327/365 hp engine was sold for $66,000 to Bidder #1 – Terry Michaelis of Proteam Corvette.

Mecum Auctions continues their 2011 season this week in Indianapolis as nearly 2,000 cars including over 180 Corvettes will be offered for sale. The 24th annual Spring Classic sales extravaganza begins with “Super Tuesday” on May 17th and continues through Sunday, May 22nd. As usual, the HD Theater crew will provide live high definition coverage of the event Wednesday, May 18th through Saturday, May 22nd. In total, they’ll air 17 hours of live auction action. Mecum Sells $1.2 Million in Corvettes at Kansas City Auction

Mecum’s Kansas City Auction was held a couple of weekends ago and it was definitely the place to be for buying and selling Corvettes. 59 Corvettes crossed the block and 42 of those found new homes. That’s a 71% sales success rate for the Corvettes in the auction. All together, Mecum sold $1.2 million in Corvettes during the two-day sale.
