Well, this is reverse technology if we ever heard it.
Everyone knows that Corvette Chief Engineer Tadge Jeuchter says they stuck with a big, bad V8 motor in the Corvette because it delivered better fuel economy with the new Active Fuel Management system that shuts down half of the motor when appropriate than a smaller motor was able to do.
We know that for the 2014 model year, the high performance LS engines are going bye-bye for Corvette and in their place will be the new Generation 5 LT1 V8s. But that doesn’t mean GM is going to stop building the LS7 and LS9 engines for other applications. Thanks to some sleuthing at Camaro5.com, it does look like Chevrolet is planning on using the 505 hp LS7 engine for the 2014 Camaro.
Chevrolet’s Spark has ignited a lot of interest so far among American buyers.
Now GM India is trying to see if it can light up a similar explosion of sales for the new creation from Chevy with heavy promotion of the car in all parts of that country.
One reason for the intense interest in the Spark is its silky smooth 4-cylinder motor that delivers 38 miles to the gallon on the road, 32 MPG in the city. GM India is even offering a LPG version of the motor.

One possible contender for the title at this year’s highly anticipated OPTIMA Ultimate Street Car Invitational coming up in less than a month is this awesome 1967 Corvette owned by Jeff Cleary, whose creation has been featured on the cover of prominent magazines for years.

The California salesman recently became the first person to go through Chevrolet Performance’s new Crate Engine Build Experience, which lets customers take part in the construction of their engine at the General Motors Performance Build Center in Wixom, Mich., northwest of Detroit.

A new supercar with a Z06 LS7 motor and suspension components borrowed from a Corvette could be on the market later this year. Falcon, the Michigan company that builds bodykits and other mods for the Dodge Viper, announced a couple of years ago at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show that it would be building a supercar in limited numbers (just 15 cars a year).
It was back in May we first learned about the Endora SC-1, a new German custom coach that will be powered by America’s finest V8 Small block engines. Sure we’ve seen custom supercars built on the Corvette chassis before. The Bertone Mantide and Rossi 66 are two of our favorites. But with these latest renderings, the German-based SC-1 is beginning to look distinctly Corvette-like and is moving up our charts of favorite vaporware vettes.

As part of the NCRS national convention last week we were able to participate in a tour of GM’s Performance Build Center. The facility is located about an hour northwest of Detroit in Wixom, MI. The low-volume plant hand assembles all of the dry sump motors for Corvettes. Previously, they also made the powerplants for the Cadillac STS-V and XLR-V. Today at 12 noon EST, GM held a live chat featuring Performance Build Center’s manager Carl Pickman, engine builder John Ross and John Fitzpatrick, Corvette’s Marketing Manager. While the conversation was centered on the new Corvette Engine Build Experience, the staff also answered several technical questions about the LS engines and the PBC. Check out the transcript.
