Tuners have had a field day with the LS family of V8 engines from General Motors, improving their performance levels to pull upwards of an amazing 1,000-hp from them in some cases.
Now that the LT1 motor has upped the ante to at least 450-hp in the base Stingray for the 2014 model year, tuners should be able to get even higher numbers than they are with the current LS1 motor, right?
Not so fast, warns Ken Lingenfelter of renowned Lingenfelter Performance Engineering.
There are a lot of significant Corvettes out there. The first fuelie, the first big block, the first car of any Corvette generation or model year, etc. Many of these cars get locked away in a museum and seldom, if ever, see use on the road. When we stumbled across this video of EX-87, “the Duntov Mule”, which now resides in the Lingenfelter Collection we had to pass it along. Click past the jump to take a fresh look at the first V8 equipped Corvette.
A couple months back we had the opportunity to tour the immense car collection of Ken Lingenfelter, owner of Lingenfelter Performance Engineering. The diverse collection contains about 150 stunning muscle cars, exotics, classics, as well as several of LPE’s latest creations. No car collection is complete without a healthy dose of America’s sports car, and this one is no different. Roughly 40% of the grouping consists of Corvettes including some very rare ones. Check out some photos from our visit after the break.
