1974 Motion Can Am Spyder Prototype Heading to Mecum Indy

Mecum’s 26th annual Spring Classic auction kicks off next week in Indianapolis. One of the stars of the weekend will be this 1974 Motion Can Am Spyder from the Dan McMichael collection. The monster was the prototype for a short run consisting of just 3 additional cars. It goes up for bids next Saturday, May 18th about 3:25pm Central time.

MCACN 2011: Motion Maco Corvette Unveiling

If you follow us on Facebook,you saw us give you a sneak peak at this car last Saturday. Purchased from “Mr. Motion” Joel Rosen about 10 years ago, it recently completed a very lengthy, very thorough, and (we imagine) a very expensive restoration. It was unveiled for the very first time last weekend at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals in Chicago by the current owner Dan McMichael, Joel Rosen, and Martyn Schorr. The Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals get underway in Chicago on Saturday and we’re betting one of the highlights of the weekend show will be the reunion of the legendary Baldwin-Motion Corvettes (and Camaro’s) with their creator, Joel “Mr.Motion” Rosen. Last Baldwin-Motion Phase III GT Corvette Found

Joel Rosen’s east coast-based Motion Performance Speed Shop was legendary for building unbeatable muscle cars in the Sixties and seventies. Teaming up with Baldwin Chevrolet, customers could order a Corvette which would be torn down and rebuilt into an 11.5 second drag car, complete with factory warranty.

One the creations of Rosen was the Phase III GT which made its debut at the International Auto Show in New York City in April, 1969. Motion Performance would build just 12 of the 500+ horsepower grand touring Corvettes with the last one leaving the shop in 1971. That last Phase III GT Corvette was recently purchased from the family of the original owner and has been restored back to original condition and will be displayed at the Muscle Car & Corvette Nationals in November.
