For the 13th time in the 99 years of Indianapolis 500 history, the Chevrolet will serve as the Pace Car for the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing”. The news came today from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway along with the announcement that four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion Jeff Gordon would be serving as the Pace Car’s driver.
This may be Jeff Gordon’s last season as a full-time racer, but the effects of his legendary NASCAR career will live on for years to come, thanks to the programs offered by the Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation.
One of the facets of Gordon’s foundation that should hit home for all Corvette enthusiasts is the Corvette raffle program.
Now that Jeff Gordon has announced 2015 will be his final full-time season competing in NASCAR, he’s already thinking about what the future may hold.
Though he’s made millions over his very productive stock car career and could likely spend the rest of his life relaxing at an island resort, Gordon no doubt will want to continue to dabble in racing.
In fact, at last Thursday’s NASCAR Media Day, he told reporters he would like to compete in an occasional endurance seat after he’s retired.
If you’re a big NASCAR and Corvette fan, and would like to own a bit of drivable history from the inaugural 1994 Brickyard 400, grab your checkbook and head for Kissimmee, Florida. One of the 25 Corvette convertible track and festival cars will be up for auction at Mecum’s Kissimmee Auction at the Osceola Heritage Park in (where else?) Kissimmee, Fla. this January 16 -24.
We told you a few weeks ago about a commercial promoting the Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation raffle of his personal 2014 Laguna Blue Corvette Stingray convertible.
Now we’ve found out that former Chevrolet general manager Jim Perkins (1989-97) was on the set when the commercial was being filmed.
It’s a great chance to hear a conversation between two of the Corvette’s biggest supporters.
NASCAR star and Corvette owner Jeff Gordon will be featured in the upcoming Cars 2 animated movie from Pixar. Gordon will be voicing the character of a Corvette C6.R named Jeff Gorvette, one of greatest American racecars alive, according to the bio found on the official Cars 2 website. Cars 2 will hit theaters on June 24, 2011.
The Monticello Motor Club is a new private race resort facility built on 650 acres in Monticello, New York – just 90 minutes outside of New York City. One of the configurations is a 3.5 mile road course consisting of 18 turns, 1.5 miles of straights and 450 feet total elevation changes. Today we find MMC member Jeff Gordon rocking a Corvette ZR1 at speeds up to 150 mph around the new track.
Corvette Conti brings us the news that NASCAR’s Hendricks Motorsports team was at the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green this week to take delivery of five 2009 Corvette ZR1s. Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon were in attendance as well as Rich Hendricks. One of the Corvettes is also going to Dale Jr, but he wasn’t available to make the trip. At $120K a pop, that’s a serious perk!

Get those TIVO’s and DVR’s ready. SPEED Channel will be putting four-time NASCAR Cup Champion Jeff Gordon behind the wheel of the new Corvette Z06 at Road Atlanta on Test Drive, SPEED Channel’s popular program featuring host Tommy Kendall. The show is set to air Saturday, October 22 at 6pm EST.
“I had never been to Road Atlanta and I got the opportunity to drive one of the best Corvettes they’ve ever brought out,” Gordon said on SPEED’s NASCAR This Morning. “The Z06 has a lot of power, handles fantastic and looks great. I had a blast.”
Footage was also shot at the famed Le Mans road course in France with Corvette factory driver Johnny O’Connell.
