Luc Alphand to Retire Corvette Racing Program

Luc Alphand and his racing team Alphand Aventures carried the flag for Corvette in Europe since 2006. His white GT1 Corvettes were a mainstay at Le Mans as much as the factory yellow C6.Rs. A crash while competing in the Rand’Auvergne all-terrain motorcycle race last year resulted in severe back injuries and now the former champion downhill skier has decided to retire from motorsports.

GT1 World 2010: Spa countdown begins!

From CorvetteMotorsport.com

Spa-Francorchamps has always had a special place in the hearts of GT drivers – not only is it the circuit most frequently mentioned as their favourite circuit, but it is also the home of GT Racing’s blue riband event, the Total 24 Hours of Spa. This year the FIA GT1 World Championship will hold the fifth round at the famous Grand Prix circuit in the Ardennes forest. And, once the winners have been crowned, the inaugural season of the FIA GT1 World Championship will have reached its half-way point. However, instead of facing the rigours of the 24-hour race, this year’s Total 24 Hours of Spa will be reserved for the GT2, GT3, GT4 and GTN classes, while the GT1 cars will compete in their usual two one-hour races on the impressive seven kilometre circuit, one of the most challenging tracks in the world.

Chevrolet had some big plans in 2009 for honoring the Corvette Racing team with the GT1 Championship Special Edition Corvettes. Built to commemorate the 10 years of GT1 racing which included 70 victories, 8 GT1 Manufacturer Championships and five GT1 class victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the initial plan was to offer 600 Corvettes, however, the global automotive recession limited production to only 125 cars. The 2009 Coupe you see here is #18 of only 24 Black GT1 Championship Edition Coupes produced.

2009 Callaway GT1 Championship Edition featured in Corvette Magazine

I just got my April 2010 issue of Corvette Magazine and oh, snap! Guess what I saw? Gracing the cover is a 2009 GT1 Championship Edition Convertible. A car so rare, we’ll be talking about the record prices these special editions are sure to get at auctions sooner rather than later. Only 7 Black GT1 Convertibles were made and we are pretty sure that only one has been tuned by Callaway.
