1962 Gulf Oil Corvette Racer to be Sold at RM Sotheby's Texas Auction

Paul Andrews and his son, Chris, have spent years building one of the world’s best collections of classic vehicles.

Now they want to sell off many of their prized cars to whittle their impressive collection down to a more manageable 15 to 20 cars that they can focus on and enjoy with their family.

Some 75 of their cars and a wide assortment of memorabilia will be auctioned off May 2 in Fort Worth, Texas by RM Sotheby’s.

One of the cars to be auctioned is their 1962 Corvette Gulf Oil race car – with no reserve. Estimated value of the car is $2 million to $2.75 million.

Corvette Auction Preview: Mecum Dallas 2012

Mecum Auctions will offer roughly 165 Corvettes for sale this week as part of their 2nd annual Dallas auction. The event kicks off Wednesday, September 5th and runs through Saturday, September 8th. The venerable Velocity crew will have 18 hours of live auction coverage from the event. According to the Mecum website over 900 total cars are currently consigned and Corvettes make up almost 20% of the docket. 1961 Corvette Gulf Oil Race Car a No-Sale at Mecum's 2012 Kissimmee Auction

The 1961 Corvette Gulf Oil race car was one of the centerpieces of Mecum’s 2012 Kissimmee auction and it drew massive attention when it hit the auction block Saturday afternoon. Bidding on the Grady Davis Gulf Oil-sponsored Corvette was fast and furious at the beginning but eventually stalled at $850,000 and the car went unsold. The reserve was undisclosed and the auctioneer only said that it would take “more”.
