2008 Le Mans Flashback: Night Practice On Board the Corvette C6.R

If all goes as planned, one week from now the two Corvette C6.Rs will be racing through the French countryside in the dead of the night locked in battle with the best sport car manufacturers in the world. Two years ago we pulled this video off a French website during live streaming of a practice session. After watching the Johnny O’Connell behind the wheel of the #63 Corvette C6.R, I tell you I can’t wait for next weekend’s 2010 24 Hours of Le Mans!

American Invasion: Corvette C6.Rs Arrive at Le Mans

Here are photos of the two Corvette C6.Rs being delivered to the Paddock at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. After some baseless speculation about a possible livery change to match the 1960 Briggs Cunningham Corvette’s white/blue stripes for the 50th Anniversary of Corvette’s first race at Le Man, we see both cars in dressed in their standard 2010 Yellow/Black livery. Like Monterey, both Corvettes feature the new 50th Anniversary logo front and center on the hood.

The #3 Briggs Cunningham Corvette Arrives in France for 50th Anniversary Celebration at Le Mans

We just got word through Lance Miller that his 1960 #3 Briggs Cunningham Corvette has made it safely to the port of Le Havre in France. The Corvette was placed in a large cargo container last month and made its trans-Atlantic voyage by ship. By now the Corvette should be resting comfortably at the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans Museum.

Rare 1960 GM Film Documents Corvette's First Visit to Le Mans

In celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Corvette’s first visit to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, GM has opened up the media archives and is showing this 1960 documentary which captures Corvette’s first class win at the historic sports car race. Narrated by Dr. Dick Thompson, aka “The Flying Dentist”, the 35-minute film follows the three Briggs Cunningham Corvettes and the #4 Camoradi Corvette from arrival in France to the post-race celebration.

Friday's Featured Corvette For Sale: #18 2009 GT1 Championship Edition Coupe

Chevrolet had some big plans in 2009 for honoring the Corvette Racing team with the GT1 Championship Special Edition Corvettes. Built to commemorate the 10 years of GT1 racing which included 70 victories, 8 GT1 Manufacturer Championships and five GT1 class victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the initial plan was to offer 600 Corvettes, however, the global automotive recession limited production to only 125 cars. The 2009 Coupe you see here is #18 of only 24 Black GT1 Championship Edition Coupes produced.

At last weekend’s American Le Mans Series at Monterey, Chevy and Corvette Racing took the time to honor the men and their Corvettes who were the trailblazers for today’s Corvette racing program. On hand for the celebration was Dr. Dick Thompson (aka The Flying Dentist) who drove the #2 Corvette at the 1960 24 Hours of Le Mans and Dick Guldstrand who raced with Bob Bondurant in 1967. These two legends told some incredible stories of their exploits and you can watch the videos after the jump.

Corvette C6.Rs Finish 3rd and 6th at ALMS Monterey

MONTEREY, Calif., May 22, 2010 – Billed as the warm-up for the upcoming 24 Hours of Le Mans, the six-hour American Le Mans Series Monterey was contested on an unseasonably cold day in central California. With track temperatures in the low 50s, getting a grip on the roller coaster 2.238-mile Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca circuit was the chief challenge.

Check out this great recap of the battle between Corvette Racing and the Flying Lizard Porsche at last year’s season ending race at Laguna Seca. Both Magnussen and Bergmeister received a two-race probation for the incident which left the #3 Corvette C6.R badly damaged and Jan with a broken tailbone.
