Team Focuses on Race Day Preparations in Final Qualifying Sessions

LE MANS, France, June 9, 2011 – At midnight in Le Mans, the field was set for the 59th running of the world’s greatest sports car race. Corvette Racing will start fourth and sixth in the 18-strong GTE Pro field in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Back-to-back two-hour qualifying sessions tonight determined the final qualifying order, but the Corvette Racing crew concentrated on preparing for the upcoming 24-hour endurance test.

Magnussen and Beretta Post Top-Five Qualifying Times in First Qualifying Session

LE MANS, France, June 8, 2011 – Preparations for this weekend’s 79th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans began today with four hours of free practice followed by the first of three two-hour qualifying sessions. Corvette Racing’s twin Compuware Corvette C6.Rs were third and fifth in the opening practice session. Then after a two-hour break, the initial qualifying session ran from 10 p.m. to midnight on the imposing 8.5-mile circuit.

Here is some onboard footage from the #73 Corvette C6.R at today’s free practice session. The Corvettes ran well and Magnussen even moved the C6.R into P1 for a few minutes. A somewhat scary moment occurred when the #74 Corvette was reported to be on fire. It turned out to be a minor power steering issue and the team was able to get right back out on track.

During the two hour qualifying session, the GTE PRO standings had the #56 BMW on the provisional pole at 3:58.426. Ferrari and BMW were 2nd and 3rd while the #74 Corvette finished 4th at 3:59.519 and the #73 Corvette was 5th at 3:59.633.

American Team Aims for Seventh Le Mans Win, First GTE Title

LE MANS, France, June 7, 2011 – Racing has been a part of Chevy’s heritage since the company was founded in 1911 by Swiss-born race car driver Louis Chevrolet and financier Billy Durant. Now as Chevrolet celebrates its 100th birthday and Corvette Racing commemorates the 10th anniversary of its first class win in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2001, Corvette Racing is seeking to write another chapter in Chevrolet’s rich racing history with its first victory in the GTE Pro (formerly GT2) category at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The Corvette Racing team took the C6.Rs to downtown Le Mans where the two factory racers underwent the pre-race technical inspection better known as scrutineering. Following the inspection, they lined up for the official team photo before heading back to the track for more photography with Richard Prince. LE MANS, France, June 6, 2011 – Race fans will have an all-access view of this weekend’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, with exclusive features that include “riding along” with Corvette Racing for the entire race. SPEED will televise 17 hours of live coverage on June 11-12, and via a partnership with Corvette Racing, fans can go to www.speedtv.com/corvette to view the hours not televised. Online coverage will include a special live video stream providing a constant look from inside one of the two Corvette C6.Rs that will be seeking a seventh class win at Le Mans.

The Corvette Racing trucks arrived in France where it delivered its cargo containing race cars and supporting parts and tools in advance of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Most of the crew and the engineers will be on site as we write this with the drivers arriving from various locations over the weekend. The busy week kicks off officially on Monday where the two C6.Rs wearing numbers #73 and #74 will undergo Scrutineering in the afternoon before posing for the traditional team picture on the pit straight.

Former Corvette Racing Driver Ron Fellows and Partners Buy Mosport International Raceway

No longer just the “Mayor of Mosport”, racing legend and former driver for the Corvette Racing team Ron Fellows is now the proud owner of his home track just outside Toronto, Canada. Fellows and his partners Alan Boughton and real-estate developer Carlo Fidani have purchased Mosport International Raceway from the Panoz Motor Sport Group. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
