Mid-Ohio ALMS to Mark First Anniversary of Corvette Racing’s GT2 Debut

LEXINGTON, Ohio, Aug. 3, 2010 – The upcoming Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge, the sixth round of the 2010 American Le Mans Series, will mark the first anniversary of Corvette Racing’s debut in the production-based GT category. Corvette Racing unveiled a pair of second-generation Corvette C6.R race cars last year at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, finishing second and fourth in the GT2 division. Now one year later, the team is in the midst of a fiercely competitive unified GT category that features entries representing BMW, Ferrari, Porsche, Jaguar, and Ford.

Rocky Road for Corvette Racing in Lime Rock ALMS

LAKEVILLE, Conn., July 24, 2010 – Lime Rock Park proved to be no walk in the park for Corvette Racing in today’s American Le Mans Northeast Grand Prix. Suspension damage resulting from contact sidelined the No. 3 Compuware Corvette C6.R, while a stop-and-go penalty effectively took the No. 4 Compuware Corvette C6.R out of contention for a victory.

[VIDEO] Wheels Come Off 2010 ALMS Season for Corvette Racing

This picture and the accompanying video pretty much sums up Corvette Racing’s chances to compete for the ALMS Championship this season. Johnny O’Connell was driving the first stint in the #3 Corvette C6.R at the Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park when contact was made with the #88 GTC Porsche. The resulting damage knocked the Corvette out of the race.

It seems that Corvette Racing can’t get a break this season and the cloud of bad luck followed the team to Connecticut this Saturday for the Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park. Olivier Beretta was assessed a stop-and-go penalty for blocking during a heated battle with the two BMWs which surprised many watchers including the SPEED commentators. For a minute it appeared that Beretta would refuse to come in, but eventually he let the BMWs go past and entered Pit road on his third circuit following the call.

Gavin and his Corvette Racing teammates will take on the shortest circuit on the ALMS schedule when they contest the American Le Mans Northeast Grand Prix on Saturday, July 24. After missing last year’s Lime Rock round while preparing for the debut of the GT2-spec Corvette C6.R, Corvette Racing will be in the midst of the raging GT war this weekend on the tight 1.51-mile, 10-turn course.
