If we could go back 20 years, the big news of the day for Corvette enthusiasts was the 1996 Corvette Grand Sport, a one-year limited edition model that helped Chevrolet commemorate the end of the C4’s 12 year reign.
Only 1,000 1996 Corvette Grand Sports were built. The iconic models came in Admiral Blue with White racing stripe livery and red hash marks on the fender and under the hood was the special LT4 V8 which made 330 hp – offering 30 more horses than the standard LT1.

Can you believe it’s been almost 20 years since the C5 Corvette was introduced?
This writer and his family were among the large crowd of enthusiasts who traveled to Bowling Green for the unveiling of the 1997 Corvette (No. 7853 still resides in my garage) on Jan. 6, 1997 at the National Corvette Museum.
Also on hand that day was Mid America Motorworks Chief Cheerleader Mike Yager, along with Corvette engineers and Chevrolet executives and lots of nosy enthusiasts eager to see the latest edition of America’s Sports Car.

Effingham, Illinois became Corvette Country last month as thousands of Corvettes from 39 states and even foreign countries made the trek to Corvette FunFest at Mid America Motorworks corporate headquarters. The three day show was a huge success judging by the photos we are sharing below.

George Barris – the King of Kustomizers – will be the Guest of Honor this year at Corvette FunFest hosted by our friends at Mid America Motorworks. Barris is known for building some of the most iconic cars including the original Batmobile, the Asteroid Corvette and Frankenstein’s Corvette for the original Death Race 2000.
As a special treat for attendees, George will be hosting seminars where you can learn about his storied career and all the great builds he has done over the years.

Finally made it!
That’s what we have to say after making the pilgrimage this year to Effingham, IL for the 21st Annual Corvette FunFest put on by Mike Yager and the great folks at Mid America Motorworks.
The theme for this year’s FunFest was “Vets with Vettes” and so not only was it great to see all the Corvettes out in the fields but to have the opportunity to talk with our nation’s veterans and see all the patriotic displays including the traveling Vietnam Veteran’s wall memorial was something we’ll never forget.
