Corvette Racing to Skip the FIA WEC 6-Hour Race at COTA

We were pretty excited last year when Corvette Racing signed up their third C7.R chassis for duty in the FIA World Endurance Challenge Race at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. The all-American driver roster included Tommy Milner and the two Taylor brothers and was referred to as “Team America”.

But according to a report by Sportscar365, Corvette Racing will not be entering a Corvette C7.R as a wildcard in this year’s FIA WEC race which takes place September 19th.

AUSTIN, Texas (Sept. 20, 2014) – Indeed sometimes when it rains, it does pour… as was the case Saturday for Corvette Racing’s No. 65 Konica Minolta/Michelin Chevrolet Corvette C7.R. The entry of Tommy Milner, Jordan Taylor and Ricky Taylor was a victim of cruel luck as the trio finished seventh in the GTE Pro class of the FIA World Endurance Championship’s Six Hours of Circuit of The Americas.

AUSTIN, Texas (Sept. 20, 2014) – It was a difficult day for the Corvette C7.Rs in the Lone Star Le Mans event at Circuit of the Americas on Saturday. Returning to the site of a victory in last year’s American Le Mans Series race, Corvette Racing aimed for a return to the GT Le Mans (GTLM) podium in the TUDOR Championship. An early charge by Antonio Garcia in the No. 3 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R at the start of the race raised hopes as the Spaniard moved from seventh to fifth in the opening laps.

The Dane – a winner a year ago with teammate Antonio Garcia at COTA in the American Le Mans Series – set a best lap of 2:04.847 (98.040 mph) to place seventh in the session. Magnussen will make his return to racing in the Corvette after he missed the most recent TUDOR Championship round at VIR as a precaution following a hard crash in a practice session.

Corvette Racing at COTA: Team America Ready for the WEC

DETROIT (Sept. 16, 2014) – With 15 years of competing at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Corvette Racing is more than familiar with competing against the world’s top production-based sports car teams. What’s new is that for the first time, that fight takes place at Circuit of The Americas.
