It appeared that the 2013 Concours d’Elegance of America at St. John’s was going to be rained out on Sunday when Saturday’s storms prevented much of the event set up. Though rain was forecast, after only a brief shower the 374 exhibitors rushed to get their cars displayed on the beautiful but wet fairways of the golf course. Though the temperatures were unusually cool, the rain held off except for a short sprinkle around noon and the wet weather didn’t seem to dampen the spirits of the car owners or the 10,000 enthusiasts who braved the threatening skies and to view some of the finest cars in the country.
Our friends at Corsa Performance and the Corvette Cleveland club are hosting their 11th Annual Corvettes at CORSA car show this Sunday, July 28th. The event is free for spectators and runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Organizers are expecting about 250 Corvettes to attend including the 2014 Corvette Stingray.
Matt Rodriguez made it back more than 40 years ago from Vietnam, where he worked as a crew chief on a chopper.
After he returned to the States in 1970, he began a 30-year career with General Motors in the tool and dye department. That’s when he also started his long love affair with Corvettes, picking up a used 1968 model that he later sold to buy a new 1980.
“When you are young, everyone wants a Corvette, and I had an opportunity,” Rodriguez said.
Each year at Bloomington Gold there are several special groupings of Corvettes on display. This year we were especially looking forward to seeing the 2014 Corvette Stingray Pace Car from this year’s Indianapolis 500. Little did we know that the Pace Car Registry was assembling a collection of 1 example of every Corvette Pace Car that’s led the field at Indy.
Bloomington Gold’s long awaited move to Champaign, Illinois took place last weekend as the show celebrated its 40th anniversary there. It was a year of firsts in 2013: the first year in a new location, the first year for the GoldAutocross, the first year of a new judging schedule, and the first year for the C7’s to attend. The event is being coordinated by Larry Courtney who also organizes the annual Corvettes on Woodward food drive each year in August. Since the new Corvette Stingrays have hit the streets, we’ve actively been searching the ‘net looking for examples of each of the 10 colors available. But since the C7′s introduction in January, one color has alluded us until now – Arctic White.
Last weekend, one of the engineers from the Bowling Green Assembly Plant made the one hour drive down I65 in an Arctic White 2014 Corvette Stingray Coupe to the Cars and Coffee gathering in Nashville and we’re very excited to share these photos with you.
Corvette enthusiasts all around the world continue celebrate the marks 60th anniversary in 2013. Le Corvette Club de France will be hosting a 2 day get together August 31st and September 1st at the La Ferté Gaucher race track in France. For you geography buffs, that’s located between Paris and the Champagne region. Even though the event will be held in France, they’re inviting enthusiasts from around the world to attend.
