In a stunning move last December, General Motors announced that it would be phasing Chevrolet out of the European market by the end of 2015 due to a challenging business model and instead it will focus its efforts on the automaker’s existing European brands, Opel and Vauxhall. GM did say that it would continue to sell “select iconic” Chevrolet-badged models in Europe but details were unspecific at the time.
General Motors is tossing in the towel in Europe for Chevrolet, leaving the market there except for the widely acclaimed Chevrolet Corvette and an expanded presence for Cadillac as its premier brand.
Starting in 2016, GM says it will rely on its Opal and Vauxhall brands to compete in the volume market and that the Corvette and other “select iconic vehicles” will remain available in Western and Eastern Europe as well as Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States.
The 2014 Corvette Stingray Coupe has only been out for a month and now the rumor mill is back in full swing with discussions about the performance variants of the C7. Motor Trend has suggested that the next generation Corvette Z06 may have up to 600 horsepower while the King of the Hill Corvette ZR1 could be pushing 700 horses or more.
The cars of the 1960s may be high-powered fun machines in our memories, but muscle cars from that era just don’t have what it takes to make Edmunds INSIDE LINE’s list of the 100 most powerful cars of all time.
And that’s not just an opinion. INSIDE LINE says each car’s ranking is determined by the horsepower rating as claimed by its manufacturer.
Ordinarily you’d think a stock Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 would be able to take on just about any comers.
But a recent quarter-mile run at Palm Beach International Raceway during the StreetCarDrags.com event breaks that mold as a Cadillac CTS-V Wagon gets off to an unbelievable start and goes on to whip the Corvette.

First, the good news: there’s apparently only one of these monstrosities. The bad news is everything else. The Eldorette is a combination of C3 Corvette and Cadillac Eldorado, and perfectly illustrates that some things – handguns and tequila, for example – just shouldn’t be put together. The seller claims over $200K was dumped into the construction, which is as crazy as it is sad.
With the C7 Corvette under development, we’ve taken a sudden interest in the pipeline of future products coming from General Motors. So after we watched the demo video of the new Cadillac CUE infotainment center and the futuristic customizable gauge cluster, we’re holding out hope that the next generation C7 Corvette will benefit from similar technology.
Matt Farah and The Smoking Tire put out a great new video featuring the new Cadillac CTS-V Wagon. Ferah took the sports wagon to the El Mirage Dry Lake Bed where he put the 556-hp Caddy through its paces which included a 3-mile top speed run while shouting out the speed to an OnStar advisor. Matt was also joined by his friend Chris who has a 480-hp tuned C6 Corvette. The two GM performance cars lined up for a half-mile sprint on the dry lake bed. See who wins after the jump!
It’s not often that I’ll talk up a car that’s not a Corvette, but after watching Cadillac’s return to the SCCA World Challenge with their CTS-V Coupe Racers with Corvette Racing alumni Andy Pilgrim and Johnny O’Connell behind the wheel, I became a fan real fast. After Round 1′s race on Saturday which resulted in a 4th place finish for O’Connell, we sat down with the former C6.R driver to discuss his leaving Corvette Racing for Cadillac, the Cadillac CTS-V racer and his future racing plans.
