Record-Setting Racer Reunited with Corvette Racing Teammate Andy Pilgrim in New Cadillac SCCA World Challenge GT Program

DETROIT, Dec. 14, 2010 – Johnny O’Connell will move from Corvette Racing to the new Team Cadillac motorsports program in the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) World Challenge GT in 2011. After 10 successful seasons in Corvettes, O’Connell will join former Corvette Racing teammate Andy Pilgrim in a pair of Cadillac CTS-V Coupes as Cadillac returns to racing in the SCCA production-based series.

Jimmie is no stranger to Corvettes, but from his comments while pacing the road course behind a stock 2011 Corvette ZR1 with show host Tommy Kendall, he is blown away by power and grip of the factory race car.

NASCAR’s Jimmie Johnson, NFL star running back DeAngelo Williams and Corvette Racing’s Johnny O’Connell will get behind the wheel of various Corvette models for the premiere of SPEED’s original series Test Drive. Hosted by Tommy Kendall, the Corvette test drives will take place on the streets surrounding Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C and Carolina Motorsports Park (CMP) in Kershaw S.C. The show airs next Wednesday, December 8th at 10:30 pm EST so get those DVR’s set. For a bit of a preview, check out the advance photos we got from SPEED.

Luc Alphand to Retire Corvette Racing Program

Luc Alphand and his racing team Alphand Aventures carried the flag for Corvette in Europe since 2006. His white GT1 Corvettes were a mainstay at Le Mans as much as the factory yellow C6.Rs. A crash while competing in the Rand’Auvergne all-terrain motorcycle race last year resulted in severe back injuries and now the former champion downhill skier has decided to retire from motorsports.

Here is a great new :30 second commercial saluting Corvette Racing’s GT victory at last month’s Petit Le Mans. Tim Allen provides the narration and the new ‘Chevy Runs Deep’ slogan makes an appearance at the end.

GM and Corvette Racing presented the theme of cascade engineering for the 2010 racing season, and appropriately so, this factory race car commercial is the perfect bookend to the Still Buiding Rockets commercial featuring the Corvette ZR1.

French Privateer Larbre Competition to Field GT2 Corvette C6.R in ILMC for 2011

Larbre Competition will be fielding a GT2 Corvette C6.R in the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup series, a seven-race series based around the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The series features races in Europe, Asia and two ALMS races in the US where Larbre’s GT2 Corvette will see action in the 12 Hours of Sebring and Petit Le Mans.

An American in Paris: The Corvette C6.R at the Paris Motor Show

Corvette Racing’s C6.R and a 2011 Supersonic Blue Corvette ZR1 are sharing the stage at the Paris Motor Show. Chevrolet is using the display to show visitors how technology gleaned from racing makes a better street car. During Round 5 of the American Le Mans Series at the Utah Grand Prix, Road & Track Magazine put five GT race cars against their street counterparts to compare and contrast in what they call the Road vs Track Ultimate Showdown. Here is a teaser video featuring Corvette Racing’s Jan Magnussen who talks about how the Corvette ZR1 compares with the C6.R and what his choice would be if he could select one to drive on the German autobahn.
