Join Doug Fehan for Celebration of Corvette Racing Legends at the Simeone Museum

Not many people have seen a 1963 Corvette Grand Sport in action, but the Simeone Automotive Museum in Philadelphia is offering enthusiasts just such a rare opportunity later this month.

During a weekend full of exciting activities on November 16 and 17, the Simeone Museum will take its 1963 #002 Grand Sport onto its back lot and demonstrate it for the public.

The demonstration will be the culmination of a special Corvette Racing Legends event set that weekend at the museum.

The Corvette Racing program has really become the textbook case of how (and why) a car company goes racing. Not only does the Chevrolet Corvette benefit from the “Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday” strategy that Zora Duntov outlined nearly 60 years ago while making his case that Chevrolet needs to be a performance brand. Racing also provides a developmental role in validating the car and its individual systems. Those systems that can improve the performance of a car in a 24 hour race can just as well improve the performance of the production Corvette you’re driving on the street right now.

SEBRING, Fla., March 9, 2012 – Following an intense preseason testing program, Corvette Racing will begin its quest for the American Le Mans Series GT championship in the season-opening 60th Annual Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring on Saturday, March 17. Originally constructed as a training ground for B-17 bomber crews during World War II, the runways and service roads of Sebring Airport became a proving ground for legions of Corvette racers. At the Baltimore Grand Prix, Program Manager Doug Fehan provided the next installment of the Corvette Racing’s Tech Transfer segment which aired during the race. While most of the tech transfer segments follow the transfer of technology from Track to Street, this is one segment where we look at the transfer from Street to Track. ACO rules that govern the ALMS require the GT cars to use many of the production-based components. For Corvette Racing, this means starting with the aluminum frame and chassis.
