With all the attention given to the outstanding C7 Corvette these days, the C5 seems to have taken a back seat in the public’s eye.
But not everyone has given up on the fifth generation 1997-2004 Corvette.
Take the owner of this C5 over in Greece, for example, who apparently had all the money and desire to create the lightest version of his car that is humanly possible, hiring Carbon Fiber Customs to create all new body panels out of carbon fiber.
Should you hear that the “Green Slime” is coming to Chicago, don’t be alarmed—this “Green Slime” is not the villain of the eponymous 1968 sci-fi horror flick. No, the “Green Slime” headed to Chicago refers to the 1997 Corvette that was the first of the breed to be modified by racing performance gurus Mallett Motorsports into a fire-breathing monster in its own right that will be one of the star attractions at Mecum’s Chicago auction on Saturday, October 11, 2014.
It’s the last Friday in September which means it’s “Black Friday” here at CorvetteBlogger.com. Here’s our salute to Black Corvettes with a random photo gallery made up of 32 Corvettes spanning seven generations.
The first production 2004 Le Mans Commemorative Edition Z06 will cross the block at Mecum’s Chicago auction on Saturday October 11, 2014. The 405 horsepower Z06 bears the special Le Mans blue paint with silver and red striping, along with special badging commemorating Corvette Racing’s consecutive 1-2 finishes in its class at the 2001 and 2002 24 Hours of Le Mans.

A white C5 Corvette was hit from behind by a Jeep in Somers, Wisconsin earlier this month, sending at least three people to the hospital.
The Corvette was eastbound on Highway K and was trying to turn south into a driveway when it was struck in the rear by the eastbound Jeep.
If you’ve always wanted a C5 Z06 but didn’t like the fact that it wasn’t available in a convertible or targa roof configuration, then we might have the perfect car for you.
But you better hurry.
At its Las Vegas auction coming up Sept. 25-27, Barrett-Jackson will be offering one of only two GMMG/Skunk Werks Corvette convertible Z06 models in existence!

A red 1999 Corvette coupe suffered an apparent mechanical problem on Saturday morning and wound up in the woods in the Florida Panhandle town of Crestview.
“I love that car,” said a Crestview man who requested his name not be revealed. “It’s something I wish I didn’t have to be seeing.”
Another edition of the Corvettes at Carlisle show has come and gone. Despite the in-climate weather, this show remains a must-attend as there is just so much see and do. In fact, I’d say that a day at Corvettes at Carlisle in the falling rain beats a day sitting behind a desk anytime!
At Corvettes at Carlisle, we walked and walked and walked some more. From the swap meet to the sales corral, from the Chevy Engineers tent on the Manufacturer’s Midway with the new Corvette Z06 to sitting up on the hill with friends and looking at all the remarkable Corvettes parked row after row, we saw it all.
And thanks to our camera, you can catch a glimpse of one of America’s premiere Corvette shows in the gallery below.
