[PICS] 1966 Corvette Big Block Barn Find

To swing open the barn doors to find an iconic Corvette that has been stored inside for years is an amazing rush to those that have experienced it. While we can’t always be there in person to watch as an old Corvette that’s covered in a layer of fine dust is pulled from the barn to outdoors, perhaps for the first time in decades, we can relive that feeling though pictures.

The pictures of this 1966 Corvette barn find that were recently posted to Tumblr are amazing, but many questions still remain.

Back in 2007 when this blog was still in its infancy, we attended one of our first live auctions as an official Corvette Blogger to cover some of the really cool Corvettes offered for sale. Hosted by RM Auctions, the December 2007 sale of the Al Wiseman Collection contained several prominent Corvettes including Zora Arkus-Duntov’s Harvest Gold 1955 Corvette Roadster.

But the real star of the auction, other than Val Kilmer’s Batmobile from Batman Forever, was a unique 1965 cut-away Corvette display created by General Motors to show off the inner-workings of the Corvette Sting Ray at its annual auto shows.

One of the great things you can do as a Corvette owner is to support the factory Corvette C7.Rs by going to one of the TUDOR United Sports Car races held around the Country. And Chevrolet makes it real easy to go by sponsoring a Corvette Corral at select races where owners can safely park their cars, listen to seminars from Doug Fehan, Harlan Charles and Ron Fellows as well as enjoy the camaraderie that we share with other Corvette owners.

Arriving this weekend at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, we were amazed to see a record number of attendees who parked their cars in the Corvette Corral. From C1s to C7 Z06s, there was a little something for everyone parked under the bright Florida sun.

1967 GT Class-Winning Corvette Returns to 2015 Sebring in Gallery of Legends Display

Sebring International Raceway is one of the oldest continuously operating racetracks in the U.S., holding the country’s first endurance race way back in 1950. The initial 6-hour race format was expanded to 12 hours in 1952 and now, some 63 years later, it remains as one of the world’s top sports car endurance races. The latest Twelve Hours of Sebring begins at 10:40 a.m. on March 21, 2015 when 47 cars will take the green flag for 12 hours of non-stop, door-to-door racing.
