With the rising values in collector cars, the importance of accurate documentation for a specific car is becoming more and more important. Bloomington Gold founder David Burroughs recently introduced a new service for collector car owners. Prove It is a process which establishes the truth about vehicles presented for authentication. The goal is to determine the authenticity of specific claims relating to the history of a particular collector car.
Each year Bloomington Gold salutes 10 people and 10 cars that have significantly influenced the Corvette hobby in their annual Great Hall display. The class of 2013 was revealed last week and will be formally honored June 28-30, 2013 at the Bloomington Gold show in Champaign, Illinois. The 4th class of cars includes the first 327 Corvette, the first big block Corvette, and a pair of powerhouse C6’s. The diverse list of people and organizations consists of the godfather of the Corvette, the founder of Carlisle Events, and the Flying Dentist.
This highly documented, unrestored 1969 L88 convertible will be offered at Mecum Auctions’ Anaheim, California event this weekend. The LeMans Blue roadster is widely considered to be one of the most highly optioned and best documented L88’s known to exist. It is scheduled to cross the auction block about 1:20pm Pacific time this Saturday, November 17th.

The 2012 version of the Bloomington Gold Corvette Show took place last weekend in St. Charles, Illinois. Chamber of Commerce weather, a fantastic setting, and spectacular cars all combined to produce yet another memorable late-June celebration of Corvettes.

It’s the fact that hundreds of Chevrolet Corvettes are actively looking for a new, caring home. To help combat this problem, Mecum Auctions holds their annual Bloomington Gold all-Corvette auction each year in June. The 2012 version takes place this Saturday June 23rd at the Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, IL.

Corvette Central founder and CEO Jerry Kohn would probably agree with that.
Back in the 1970s, Kohn was a tool & die specialist and a Corvette enthusiast from Michigan who was looking for much-needed parts for a 1958 Corvette. It didn’t take long for him to discover that the parts he needed were either not available, poorly made, or overpriced.
If you scroll through Corvette production numbers between 1970 and 1976 you’ll notice that there’s no mention of the color black in there anywhere. Now, we all know that GM bigwigs could pull some strings and a get a Corvette in essentially any color they wanted. That’s the case here in which GM’s President, Pete Estes, ordered up a loaded black 1972 roadster. We caught up with this rarity at an NCRS event last weekend.
