Corvettes on eBay: Auction of a 1977 Corvette Gets a Little Weird

We’ve all seen some auctions and classified ads that may feature a photo or two of a pretty girl with a Corvette, and for the most part if the pictures are tastefully done, it can serve as a great attention-getter.

This eBay auction listing for a 1977 Corvette seems to start okay. The teaser pic shows an attractive bikini-clad woman leaning against the red Vette, but when you click on it and then see all the pictures, you’ll think you are in the twilight zone.

After all, nothing helps sells a Corvette like girls, a ventriloquist with his ‘dummies’, and of course, Santa Claus.

Corvettes on eBay: A One-Owner 1966 Corvette Barn Find

There’s gold to be found on eBay and I swear I get a funky feeling inside when I come across the occasional barn find on the auction website.

Here’s a one-owner 1966 Corvette big block that’s been tucked away in a barn since 1981. The owner passed away a couple years ago and now his widow is selling the property which forces the sale of the Sting Ray.

Former Barn Find 1968 L88 Corvette Known as Bounty Hunter Headed for Mecum Monterey

This 1968 L88 Corvette has come a long way since we first saw it as a fresh barn find in 2008.

The former psychedelic-painted racer was found in North Florida by our friends at ProTeam Corvette who rehabbed the street-raced L88 that was known locally as “Bounty Hunter”. Armed with a pedigree of awards, the Rally Red Convertible is headed to Mecum’s Monterey Auction in August where it will be offered for sale.

Corvettes on eBay: 1962 Corvette with Rare Fiberfab Centurion Body

If you’re looking for something a little unusual in the Corvette world, and you are handy with tools and know how to work with fiberglass, eBay may have your ideal car. It has a ’62 Corvette frame, a 350 cubic inch motor and a Muncie three-speed transmission. The body is a Centurion made by Fiberfab and if the shape of the body looks familiar to you, it should—it is a copy of Bill Mitchell’s 1959 Sting Ray racer.

Corvettes on eBay: 1969 Corvette Survivor from the Gas Monkey Garage

To say that eBay has been a boon to those who are perennial car-lookers, like most of us Corvette fans, is overstating the obvious. You just never know what you’re going to find.

For instance, a currently running auction on eBay is offering a 1969 Riverside Gold Corvette convertible in survivor condition showing only 51,089 miles “that is believed to be original” in the ad’s words, being sold by the guys at the Gas Monkey Garage featured on the TV show Fast N’ Loud.

One of the featured consignments at Russo & Steele’s auction in Newport Beach, California this weekend will be a 1964 Corvette coupe. The Bid Goes On for the Featured Corvettes at Mecum's Seattle Auction

Overall Mecum’s first trip to Seattle was met with an over flow of enthusiastic bidders and collectors. Mecum obviously worked overtime to offer their customers a varied assortment of excellent collector cars. When the curtain came down Mecum had to be pleased with their initial foray into the Pacific Northwest setting a world’s record for a muscle car when a 1971 Plymouth Hemi Cuda was hammered for $3.5M. It was obviously a muscle car market since it definitely was not a Corvette market.

Mecum put together a dynamite docket of outstanding investment level Corvettes for their introductory event in the Northwest and though there was strong bidding for a some of the Corvettes, the majority of bids did not meet the consignor’s reserves and 65% of all Corvettes offered over the two day event went unsold and none of the four featured Corvettes sold.

Another indication of disappointing results for Corvettes was the fact only one Corvette was able to make the top-ten list, a 1958 restomod. That is almost unheard of for the world’s largest Corvette seller who typically has almost half of the top ten occupied by America’s sports car.

The Last C1 Corvette to be Auctioned at Mecum Seattle

Much of the hoopla surrounding Mecum’s inaugural Seattle auction this weekend is focused on the 1967 L88 Corvette, a ’63 Z06 tanker and several other prized Corvettes. But after reviewing their online catalog, we found this little gem cruising just under the radar.

On Saturday, Mecum will offer a 1962 Corvette was the last first generation Corvette ever built.

Mickey Thompson's 1963 Corvette Z06 Up for Grabs at Mecum's Seattle Auction

Clearly Mecum’s Seattle auction is shaping up to be a blockbuster for Corvette enthusiasts. In addition to the L88 “double feature” we reported earlier this week now Dana Mecum and his team have added another rare Corvette to their first ever Seattle event, Mickey Thompson’s personal 1963 Z06.

On June 13th and 14th, Corvette collectors can bid on a 1967 L88, a 1969 L88, and Thompson’s 1963 Z06. These are some of the rarest, most coveted and most valuable Corvettes ever produced. There’s not much more Mecum could throw into the equation to make it any more exciting for Corvette collectors unless they could find a ZL1 or an original Grand Sport to add to their other three bluechip Corvettes.

Corvettes on eBay: 1957 Chevrolet Engineering Fuelie Corvette for $6.5 Million

The headline is not a typo or a joke — a price for anything that includes seven digits is a serious matter and especially so for a car that hasn’t been started since 1967. Our friends at roadtrippers.com noticed this ad on eBay and understandably wondered if the ad and the car were legitimate. Certainly it’s not every day that you see a price that high on eBay, but it’s not even close to the highest eBay sale on record—that belongs to a Frank Mulders designed, 405-foot yacht that sold for $168,000,000 in 2006.
