Corvette Auction Preview: Mecum Dallas 2015

Mecum Dallas 2015 starts up today and run through the weekend. The Dallas auction has become one of the more significant stops for Mecum over the last couple of years and we see some great cars queued up for this weekend as well.

For this auction preview, we’ve handed the remote over to our friend Marshall Fancher of Vette-n-Vestments who gives a list of several Corvettes to watch.

Two-Owner 1968 L88 Corvette Headed to Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas

Barrett-Jackson’s fourth and final collector car auction in 2015 will be held next week in Las Vegas, Sept. 24-26th. For a town that was built on gambling and is known for inducing visitors to make risky decisions with their cash, there is a sure-bet coming to town and it carries the legendary performance moniker known as the L88 Corvette.

Corvettes on eBay: 1978 25th Anniversary Corvette with 15 Miles

Today we bring you yet another low-mileage 1978 Corvette.

Way back when the ‘Vette was celebrating its 25th anniversary and I was still a teenager, some folks got the idea that they would buy one – or more – of these “special” Corvettes and hang on to them to sell for a war pension sometime in the future.

Here’s a case in point.

Purple People Eater Corvette Racer Heading to Barrett-Jackson's Scottsdale Auction

One of the most famous Corvette race cars in history will go on the auction block at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale 2016 set for Jan. 23-31.

The Purple People Eater Corvette – which was driven by Florida-based driver Jim Jeffords, who singlehandledly ended the West Coast’s domination of Corvette racing late in the 1950s – was discovered by legendary Corvette enthusiast Chip Miller, founder of what is now Carlisle Events, and Ken Heckert, a restoration shop owner, in the mid-1970s.

1953 Corvette No. 198 to be Featured at Mecum's Dallas Sale

A 1953 Corvette that became just the second first-year model to earn Bloomington Gold SURVIVOR status will be on the auction block at the Mecum Auction in Dallas set for Sept. 16-19.

This Corvette, the 198th ever made, comes from the Dean Klein Collection. No other details were available, but the SURVIVOR ranking means that the car passed stringent requirements at Bloomington, including remaining at least 50 percent unrestored or altered in any way.

Corvettes on eBay: Burnt but Still Viable 1957 Corvette Fuelie

‘Tis better than to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all.

That old quotation pops to mind about this 1957 Corvette Fuelie currently being auctioned on eBay.

Just a few months ago, this was a completely restored Corvette, one of just 713 produced with fuel injection that year. It’s also one of just 664 four-speed 1957 Corvettes and has the correct numbers-matching engine.

Then disaster struck, with a dash fire leading to the damage you see in these photos.

CORRECTION: 1960 CERV 1 Sale Still in Play According to Mike Yager

UPDATE: We heard from Mike Yager this morning after we published an article regarding the sale of the 1960 CERV 1 (Chevrolet Engineering Research Vehicle) at RM’s Monterey Auction. He told us that the price was incorrect and that negotiations with a potential buyer are continuing.

We’ve pulled the incorrect article and will wait for final confirmation as to the status of one very cool prototype.

We apologize for the confusion.

[PICS] 1972 Corvette Field Car Gets a Second Chance on eBay

Barn finds and field cars.

It’s always seemed to me that when looking at pictures of a barn find Corvette, no matter what the condition, there is an emotion that feels almost magical. The sight of a Corvette sitting outside in a field where it’s at the mercy of the elements brings up feelings that are exactly opposite.

Seeing a Corvette rotting away in a field or backyard is just sad. But thanks to eBay, there is hope that these Corvettes might get another chance.

We’re hoping this 1972 Corvette field car that recently sold on eBay falls into that category.

Original Low Mile 1969 Corvette L88 to be Offered in Monterey

This unrestored 1969 Corvette L88 coupe will make you think it’s the ’60s again!

How many 46-year-old cars do you know that have just 2,576 miles showing on the odometer, and furthermore how many do you know that have the legendary 427/430 L88 engine lurking under their hood?

But that’s the story behind this impressive time-capsule of a Corvette that will be auctioned off at the Rick Cole Monterey Auction Aug. 13-15 at the Marriott Hotel near Fisherman’s Wharf.
