Over the weekend at Corvettes at Carlisle, select GM engineers in attendance gave a series of quickie seminars (5-10 minutes and then Q&A) at the top of each hour. On Saturday morning, Steve Grilli, Bowling Green Assembly’s Quality Manager spoke and confirmed that retail production for the 2014 Corvette Stingray is underway as well as some other interesting tidbits of Stingray news.
We know that the most important question right now on people’s minds is when will production start for retail customers who have ordered the 2014 Corvette Stingray? Unfortunately, the only correct answer we have is “soon”. But until that magical date happens, how about we watch a video that shows just how the new 7th generation Corvette Stingray will be assembled.
Since the ordering process for the 2014 Corvette Stingray began in late May, we have noticed a huge increase in the amount of chatter on the forums about status codes and TPWs. TPW stands for “Target Production Week” and during normal production, they will usually give the buyer a fairly accurate forecast for when their Corvette will be built. But because the Corvette Stingray hasn’t officially started retail sales production, the TPWs that customers are getting through the Chevrolet customer service system may not be accurate and that appears to be causing concern – both for the customer and the Corvette production team.
We reached out to Corvette Marketing Manager John Fitzpatrick to get more information about the production schedule and the processes that will happen before the plant starts shipping the new C7 Corvette Stingrays to dealers.
It looks like the Corvette Assembly Plant has been busy cranking out examples of the 2014 Corvette Stingrays because they are literally everywhere in Bowling Green this weekend for the Corvette Museum’s 60th Anniversary celebration. On the Saturday seminar at April 2013’s National Corvette Museum Bash, we got an update on all the happenings over at the Bowling Green Assembly Plant where the Chevrolet Corvette is built. Plant Manager Dave Tatman talks about closing out the C6 Corvette and preparing and building the C7 Corvette Stingray. He also talks about moving the Performance Build Center from Wixxom, MI to the BGAP.
The Corvette Museum’s Annual Bash was in full swing on Friday and the biggest crowds were always around the 2014 Corvette Stingray Coupe and Convertible on display in the conference room.
But that didn’t mean there weren’t any other new Stingrays in the vicinity. This is Vette City after all. Hunting down the new model cars at the factory or around town is an annual pastime but this year it was made much easier as we got directions to where we could find them from Corvette Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter.
Good news for General Motors and its Bowling Green, Kentucky assembly plant where the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray will be built starting later this year.
Last Thursday, the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority Board approved tax incentives for several expanding companies, including GM.

At the end of every production year, the Bowling Green Assembly Plant posts a list of “Options Penetration” showing how many of each type of Corvette, color and options were built so that new Corvette owners could try to figure out how rare their car may be.
Even though that list isn’t out yet, we do have some preliminary data that we would like to share as part of our farewell to the C6 Corvette!
