Corvette Assembly Plant Announces Suspension of Tours

The National Corvette Museum recently posted the following notice on their facebook page about the tour schedule at the Corvette assembly plant in Bowling Green:

All GM Corvette Plant tours will cease on September 14, 2012. The date for tours to resume has yet to be determined. Of course, you can always come visit us at the Museum! We are open daily, 8am-5pm.

[VIDEO] Corvette Assembly Plant Celebrates 30th Anniversary

The Bowling Green Assembly Plant celebrated its 30th anniversary of producing America’s favorite sports car, the Chevrolet Corvette. Workers wearing red shirts gathered outside the facility and formed a giant bowtie for a commemorative photo. Here’s a news report from Bowling Green’s WBKO-TV about the anniversary and we hear from Plant Manager Dave Tatman who voiced his appreciation for the support the plant receives from the surrounding communities.

[VIDEO] Corvette Assembly Plant Workers Talk About Moving from St. Louis to Bowling Green

St. Louis Today has an interesting article and an accompanying video about former St. Louis General Motors employees who transferred to Bowling Green in the 1980′s to keep their jobs assembling the Corvette. The transition from St. Louis to Bowling Green wasn’t particularly smooth for the transplanted UAW members as GM had promised new jobs to local Warren County residents. But many of those jobs failed to materialize as over 900 workers from St. Louis took advantage of a relocation offer and moved to Bowling Green with the Corvette.

GM to Invest $131 Million in Bowling Green Assembly Plant

GM North American President Mark Reuss brought some very good news to state and local community leaders in Bowling Green as well as for the 500 employees of the Corvette Assembly Plant and Corvette lovers everywhere. General Motors will be investing $131 million in the plant for upgrading tooling and machinery and will create as many as 250 new jobs in advance of producing the up-coming C7 Corvette.

At the Corvette Museum’s C5/C6 Bash, we talked with Corvette Assembly Plant Manager Dave Tatman. Dave came to Bowling Green last August and calls his assignment a “dream job”. We spoke about the shortage of the metallic paint pigment Xirallic and if that will effect production of the Centennial’s Carbon Flash paint, the investment in the plant by GM (being announced today btw), and the people who build the greatest sports car in the world.

Kentucky Approves tax Incentives for GM Project in Bowling Green

Since 1981, Bowling Green has been the home of Corvette production and it looks like the Kentucky assembly plant is on tap to build the next generation Corvette as well. According to a report from the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority, GM is considering a possible $131.1 million project at the Bowling Green Assembly Plant. To help sway the manufacturer, the board announced it was offering the automaker $7.5 million in incentives for the new project.

2011 Corvette Production Statistics (So Far) by Model, Color

Thanks to Corvette Conti, we have a couple of charts detailing 2011 model year Corvette production. Buyers are still flocking to the Grand Sport models which combined, makes up 54% of total Corvette production. As far as popular colors, the numbers are following the recent trend of Black being the most popular choice followed by the two Reds and Cyber Gray.
