One of the interesting displays at the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance was from Hagerty Insurance. It’s the 50th anniversary for two automotive icons – the Porsche 911 and the Corvette Sting Ray – and Hagerty asked fans to vote for their favorite.

The new 2014 Corvette Stingray was one of the star attractions at the Amelia Island Concours earlier this month. In addition to showing off the new C7, they also gathered together a collection of some very rare 1963 Sting Rays as well. In 1964, Chevy engineers imagined hanging an aluminium Corvette engine off the back of the frame as part of an engineering study on safety and crash zones. Zora wasn’t really on board with the project until Larry Shinoda penned a design that many claim was the genesis for the C3 Corvette. The result was XP-819, a radical looking rear wheel drive prototype.
The Corvette was famously wrecked on the GM proving grounds after a tire test and while it was put back together, Chevy pretty much washed it hands of XP-819 after the accident and moved on in developing several other notable rear-engine prototypes.

The 2014 Corvette Stingray made its first visit to the Southeast United States this weekend where it was on display at the Amelia Island Concours D’Elegance. The Stingray Coupe was situated on the grounds of the Ritz Carlton’s golf course and it was joined by white versions of Corvettes from each of the previous C1-C6 generations.
Like any popular rock star, the 2014 Corvette is on tour to showcase its latest release. After last weekend’s West Coast stop at the Petersen Automotive Museum, the C7 Corvette will be heading to the East Coast were it will be shown at the prestigious Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance in Florida on March 8th – 10th. This year’s show will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1963 Sting Ray in addition to showing off the new 7th generation Corvette.
It’s not often that Corvette enthusiasts can say they will have a chance to see a car they’ve never seen before.
But come the week of March 8-10, at the 18th annual Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance in Florida, the 1964 rear engine experimental Corvette known as the XP-819 will be unveiled to the public for the first time ever.

One of the features at last month’s Amelia Island Concours D’elegance was a class made up exclusively of Corvette styling cars. Included in the chic, invitation-only collection of cars was this Firemist Gold 1962 Corvette created under GM Shop Order #10224. It is believed that this one-off was an exercise to produce a 50th Anniversary package to celebrate Chevrolet’s golden anniversary.
Amelia Island’s Concours d’Elegance is renowned for bringing unique and rare cars together and this year will be no exception as the rear-engined experimental Corvette XP-819 will be displayed on the grounds of the Ritz Carlton in Northeast Florida during the weekend of March 9-11, 2012.
